Who are the most likeable/ sweetest characters ever in movies?

As in James Stewart level likeable? Male and female? Who are the guys you have rooted for most?

Right now I think very hard to top Andrew Garfield as Private Dawes!

Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins

Marge Gunderson in Fargo.

Harold Lloyd’s “Glasses” character from numerous silent films.

Jim’s Dad.

I thought Tom Hank’s character in The Terminal was ridiculously likable.

It’s another character based on a real person so I think that might be an important aspect.

Edit: I think the characters I’ve rooted for most in any movie ever are the bobsleigh team in Cool Runnings.

Chris Reeve as Clark Kent.

Andre the Giant as Fezzick.

Fix-It Felix in Wreck It Ralph.
But really his whole archetype. The general “successful counterpart isn’t really a jerk at all” deal.

Early Han Solo. What a maroon! And he got a princess. Well, after that carbonite mess…

Nick, from Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist.

I second Mary Poppins. As for males, Tom Hanks in Big.

Alabama in True Romance.

Robin Williams as Chris Nielsen in What Dreams May Come.

Chance the Gardener.

Forrest Gump, of course.

John Coffey in the Green Mile.

Emma Thompson in a ton of stuff, but mostly Sense and Sensibility.

Alexander Dane/Dr Lazarus in Galaxy Quest

Balthazar in Galaxy Quest

Guy in Galaxy Quest

Anybody in Galaxy Quest

Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams.

Ethan Hawke in Dead Poets Society.

Clarence in True Romance.

Tom Holland in Spider-Man.

Jim’s Dad in American Pie.

Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson in Fargo.

Audrey Tautou as Amelie.

Arnold Ridley as Private Godfrey (mainly a TV role, but there was also a movie so I’m counting it).
