Top Ten Movies of the last 10 years!

Name em!

MM

It’s going to take me a while to put together a list of my own, but out of interest here are the top movies released since 2005 according to Rotten Tomatoes:

Mad Max: Fury Road
Boyhood
Selma
Toy Story 3
Up
The Wrestler
The Hurt Locker
Man On Wire
Inside Out
Before Midnight

I have liked a lot of movies over the years but there’s always a few
each year that stand out from the pack. So I’ve picked them then whittled that list down to my favourite 10.

My stand out movies always come down to the following factors: Impact, Memorable, re-watchability.
Those 3 factors define my 4 favourite films of all time:
The Lost Boys, Donnie Darko, Kill Bill and Dumb & Dumber.
All of which I’ve seen dozens of times.

2005
Sin City
A History of Violence

2006
Clerks 2
The Prestige
Harsh Times
Children of Men
Pans Labyrinth

2007

Ha, that it is a pretty good list. I would rewatch any of those but Batman tonight. Comedies are tough, though. I mean, man, Borat was a lightning bolt when it hit and it still holds up way better than it should.

Looking at my shelf and adding “rewatchability” to my factors for my list of movies from 2005-2015 it might be:

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Guardians of the Galaxy
Man of Steel
Old Joy
A Serious Man
Synechdoche, New York
Talledega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby
There Will Be Blood
The Tree of Life
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

The naked wrestling scene in Borat had me doubling over in pain in laughter.

This could change tomorrow but:

Shame
Mad Max: Fury Road
Birdman
Inglourious Basterds
Under the Skin
What We Do in the Shadows
Drive
Gone Girl
A Serious Man
Upstream Color

Mad Max: Fury Road
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Django Unchained
Birdman
Inception
Watchmen
The Raid 2
Pan’s Labyrinth
District 9
Sunshine

My personal favourites. Of course The Dark Knight Trilogy would be in there aswell. And Kingsman, since it was so damn fun. Narrowing it down to 10 is hard.

It’s interesting that almost everyone has at least one movie we’ll all have hated

It’s very hard to make this list and I suspect I’ll be missing something brilliant. BUT at the moment I’ll say…

Ratatouille
Mesrine
Shame
Kick-Ass
Inglorious Basterds
Old Boy (original)
Django Unchained
Frozen
The Kill List
Grand Budapest Hotel

I absolutely could make a top 10 list of films I love that everyone else hates

Funny People, Great Gatsby, The Happening, Man of Steel, The Other Guys, Prometheus, Speed Racer, Spider-Man 3, V For Vendetta, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

I own all of these on DVD or Blu and would happily watch any of them tonight if anyone wants to come over.

Bubbling under are Monsieur Lazhar, The Guest, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Iron Man 3, Casino Royale, Stories We Tell, Up and many others that I can’t think of right at the moment.

Thanks Robert, that’s nice to read.

Yeah, comedies are tough. Humour is so subjective and particular to an individual. Horror is the same to a degree.
There’s been a lot of comedies that I’ll watch over and over, sometimes I can’t even explain why.

Evidently, given the inclusion of Norbit on your 2007 list!

I have not seen Great Gatsby yet.
Other than Man of Steel & Speed Racer I’d take you up on that offer.

I like Prometheus a lot and to this day I don’t get the hate for Spider-Man 3. In fact, recently I’ve been thinking both are due another viewing soon.

Haha

I love Norbit man.

My wife is baffled by how many times I’ve watched it, which is probably 10 to 12 times by now. I think it’s funny as fuck. I think the world has been brainwashed to not realise how good that movie is.

Oh man I love The Guest!! Can’t believe I forgot Casino Royale.

Eeek, my fiendish plan to sneak 20 movies into my list of Top ten movies of the last 10 years has been discovered.

And The Guest is so good.

Edit: Can I add Death at a Funeral in there (the original British version)?

I’ve seen sooooooooooooooooooo many… I don’t think I could even choose 20 in 10 years =/

Notable ones though, from those I can remember at the moment:

-Inside Man
-Lucky Number Slevin
-Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
-Revolver
-JCVD
-The Sunset Limited
-Thank you for Smoking
-The Man From Earth
-Charlie Bartlett
-The Oxford Murders
-Flypaper
-30 minutes or less
-Tucker & Dale vs Evil

Probably a lot more… and I didn’t even get into sci-fi which is my prefered genre

I realized I forgot 40 year old virgin, which I think just fits. Best comedy in years and years.
