If you want a macabre alternative to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, Nederland has you covered.
The festival pays tribute to Bredo Morstol, frozen on dry ice high above Nederland. It will run on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. A ball will also be happening on Friday, requiring a $20 entry fee and lasting from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Activities include The Newly Dead Game to test knowledge of your partner, open mikes for poetry and musings and various contests such as a beard and mustache contest, a brain freeze contest, an oyster-eating contest, icy turkey bowling, coffin races, a salmon toss and more.
Entry fees for contests vary from $5 to $75. A $10 wristband will get you into all three heated tents that will be providing food and drink and playing live music from 30 bands.
There was a video of the guy who puts fresh dry ice on the Frozen Dead Guy every two weeks, but they have not posted it to the web yet.
