People don't try to film concerts on their phones in the UK? I didn't realize it was a cultural specific thing. It is a fairly strange phenomenon. I guess people upload their photos and videos to social media the way they might with a meal or something, to kind of document their lives into this ongoing feed that others can see. It all seems rather pointless to me, but that could be me showing my age. The last show I attended in New York, I let some younger kids ahead of me (I'm quite tall) and they proceeded to take selfies of themselves standing in a dark crowd for the whole show (sometimes using flash), in addition to shots of the band. These tickets were not terribly cheap...I thought it was a strange thing to do.
I've been to a few concerts this year. Looking back it seems like I've seen Wilco, Six Organs of Admittance, Waka Flocka Flame, Neko Case, Holy Holy, the Mountain Goats, and the Drive By Truckers. They were all pretty good.
Looking at my upcoming schedule I'm set to see Julianna Barwick, Eleanor Friedberger, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, M83, KING, Phish, Sleep, Miranda Lambert, and Leon Bridges through the end of the summer. A nice mix of stuff.
