Scuttled Project: WONDERS

#1

Hey y’all! Just for fun I thought I’d post some pages for a project that never made it.

A post pulp thing, inspired by the work of Ellis, Morrison, Azz and Cooke on pulpy stuff. It was called WONDERS, and it was characterizing it as post pulp.

After completing these pages, the artist (ROBERT AHMAD) decided to try again, with a different, more realistic style.

U seriously need to think about self publishing on amazon/kindle or another digital forum… the world has changed… we don’t need a publisher anymore these days… just the drive

I see a lot of influences from late-40s Will Eisner and early-50s Frank Frazetta, with some Al Williamson thrown in there, in the page layouts and facial expressions. Very “retro” feel, which is appropriate to the subject matter, I think. Exciting work, Deniz.

Thanks, but it really comes down to the artist. It’s not fair to ask someone to work for free on any kind of ongoing project like this. The chance for renumeration should be real and relatively soon.

Proud of the work we did on it, and had many, MANY more issues planned, with a lot of world building stuff. I genuinely think it would have been like nothing else of its kind, but it was a great learning experience.

Thanks, sir! Yes, there was a lot of that on the part of Robert, I know he saw Williamson as a god. For my part the writing was inspired a bit more by Moore and Ellis and Morrison, but when they were ‘channeling’ those old pulp books (especially the journal entries, which I had GREAT FUN writing).

It’s not fair but it never hurts to ask either… I was just saying the quality of work is there to self publish… it’s better than mine lol

Thanks!

Gonna bump this a bit (and move it into the Creative Central section – apologies for cluttering up the pub!)
