Rank the MCU movies - Post Infinity War Edition

We did this before in October 2016 so you can look up your old list if you don’t want to rebuild things again. We can just stick with the Disney movies for now, or if you’re feeling adventurous you can do all 50 Marvel movies.

For me:

  1. Thor Ragranok
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. The Avengers
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy 2
  5. Iron Man
  6. Thor
  7. Iron Man 3
  8. Winter Soldier
  9. Infinity War
  10. Spider-Man Homecoming
  11. Incredible Hulk

  13. Dr Strange
  14. Captain America The First Avenger
  15. Iron Man 2
  16. Civil War
  17. Age of Ultron

And I still haven’t seen Black Panther.

Thor 2 is doing well.

I don’t really remember it very well and it’s one of the few (if not the only) that I have seen but didn’t see in the theater.

I think Cap 1 and Thor 1 were the only two I didn’t see at the cinema, for baby-related reasons. I wasn’t a huge fan of either at first, but they have aged well.

When is the last time any of us saw Thor 2? I swear I remember thinking it was fine but that was ages ago.

I watched it a second time so that my wife could watch it, so that was probably when the Blu-Ray came out.

There are a couple of good bits in it but it’s mostly just pretty unmemorable for me - I only really recall the final battle scene.

I don’t think any of the MCU films are actively bad.

I do think my favorite films either were the most genred within the superhero realm, introduced a character/world really well or really endeared me to (a) character(s) I had either been indifferent to or actively disliked.

Also, Infinity War might be higher on the list but I’m trying to gauge a little better whether that is because I’ve just seen it.

I rewatched all of these, wildly out of order, over the last 2 months. The only one I think, still, is just really a very bad movie is the Dark World. What a mess.

I’m just amazed that there are 19 MCU films. 19!! With the 20th one only a couple months away!!

Tomorrow is the 10-year anniversary of the US release of Iron Man, the one that started the ball rolling. How many of us dreamed at that time that Marvel Studios would ever achieve this level of success and quality?

Coming out of Iron Man my main thought was “Finally!” Oh, love for Superman and Spider-Man Tobey and Keaton’s Batman, but it was Iron Man that got it right.

And it followed The Incredible Hulk, which i was pretty sure would kill comics adaptations forever.

I think I was channel surfing last year some time and came across it. I watched a few minutes then changed the channel. It just didn’t engage me.

Dark World is a lot of fun if one remembers to absolutely disengage one’s brain. Pretty pictures and Marvel stuff! Thor! Loki! The chick from 2 Broke Girls with the boobs! What’s not to like?

And where are my car keys?

Imagine how many they’re going to end up with! I’m guessing we’ll get around 50 when all’s said and done.

Actually, Incredible Hulk came after Iron Man. In the post-credit scene, Tony Stark approaches General Ross and tells him about a team he’s putting together, which was the first link in the MCU series.

This was my list back then, for revisionism illustration on my behalf.

14/ Captain America

Here’s where I’m at now with the newer stuff added and one or two adjustments.

Rudi is nearly at an age where I’ll consider letting him watch this stuff, which would be a good time for a rewatch and reordering exercise at the end of the year or thereabouts.

I definitely feel I need to watch Infinity War again, this time without a 2hrs 20 movie directly before it.

And yes, I definitely am taking an emperors new clothes approach of sticking Black Panther at the top of my list, mainly because it’s so different from the rest but really for a multitude of different reasons.

I’ve assigned ratings to mine just because that’s how my simple mind operates, plus it’s fun.
Bear in mind these ratings are really relative to other superhero movies and not movies in general, or they would be at least a point or two lower.

Main point I note here is how strong the recent movies have been that they all feature pretty high on this list and I do think that is down to quality as opposed to just newer = fresher in my mind.

01/ Black Panther 9/10
02/ Winter Soldier 9/10
