I agree with this definitely
Amazing is still my favourite comic every month.
Yeah it's really great
Just to be clear as far as this analogy goes it's more like checking out the new Paul Thomas Anderson or Edgar Wright movie which is a much different prospect.
It's a mix. I need to be interested in two of my list of three things (property, writer and artist) to be excited about and check out a book.
Nightly News was like a huge thing for a first comic from a new writer/artist. No one noticed? The only Ultimate writer post Ellis/Bendis/Millar that was worth reading?
Maybe bad sentence composition but I was referring to Williamson. If anyone else was reading Masks & Mobsters they were quiet about it.
In the last Marvel Comics thread there was this article linked about how "America Chavez is the perfect example of Latinx because she chose to be South American"....but it just hit me, and really freaks me out, that saying that is just an excuse for cultural appropriation.
I was handed the first issue by my comic book retailer at the time. He told me "You're buying this. You will like it. "
He did that from time to time. Darn him, but he was never wrong either.
This is what I was saying is missing that led to a lot of this discussion, curation.
Then you have guys like Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens who have been working for decades. Their stock rises and falls every few years but they have worked fairly consistently.
I have said before that I think Bendis has burned out. I think he would benefit from leaving Marvel and either going to DC or focusing on indie work for a few years. He's been with Marvel since about 2000 and has written just about every major character and/or group.
You've just summed up the point of several MW threads Ron - do you really want those replaced by a bunch of algorithms?
Talking of which, needs to do a few reviews.....
I think you'll find I'm saying the exact opposite.
Stop cheating, that's a different post!
It's the post I was referring to in that post though.
I think a lot of comic shops are missing out on the idea of curation too. All specialty shops should be curating content for their buyers or at least be able to make suggestions based on previous likes.
It's the only Marvel book I buy.
So, you're expecting me to read one post, jump several others to your next one and then put them together? That's far too much work.
But yeah, we're basically in agreement with that other para.
I'll buy pretty much anything with Dredd in it but that said the creators involved in the books are usually solid writers that I've been a fan of in the past.
Rowell's novels are great, so I'm looking forward to whatever this is (Runaways, maybe?).
Me too. I'll also avoid characters as well. I don't care if you put my favourite creators on a spidey book. I'm not buying it. Same with wolverine.
