The real question is not why has Ross painted the cover, but why is Carol Danvers front and centre of it?
She's a rubbish character who Marvel have been trying to forcefully flog along with the Inhumans for years now, when the core of Marvel as everyone knows is the X-Men, SpiderMan and Cap.
I'm not sure what they are trying to acheive right now, but when XMen needed a new lease of life they put Guggenheim and Bunn on the new flagship X-books, both of who will churn out steady books, but what they really need is headline creative talent on three books to lift them out of the malaise that Marvel has created.
Unless they get a grip soon, and despite there being some decent books in their line up, I can't see them turning a corner with this mentality.
Meanwhile DC is going from strength to strength with Wildstorm just adding to what is already a top line up of exciting books, showing they are not rest of on their laurels either.
