James Bond: movies, books and comics news

Making the Boyle rumours more likely:

According to Deadline, MGM already has one possible script from Casino Royale, Skyfall and Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, while Boyle and Hodge’s Bond 25 idea seems to be a totally separate vision. The report says that if Hodge’s script impresses MGM and the producers enough, that could be the version of the film that gets made, likely with Boyle at the helm. If Hodge’s screenplay isn’t chosen, another director will step in to film Purvis and Wade’s version.

A Bolye/Hodge Bond would be awesome. I really hope things go that way. Boyle is a fantastic director and I’d trust him to put Bond back on track after Mendes’ retro nostalgia bullshit.

#705

Bamigboye has a good track record on these things.

Also, Boyle directing a Beatles musical could be pretty great.

#706

Holy s–t! Danny Boyle? Odd, but interesting choice. I look forward to it.

P. S is it too much to ask for gadgets return?

#707

I just want Bond on a mission, rather than him going rogue yet again.

Think we didn’t mention about the new novel coming out, Forever and a Day.

Second novel by Anthony Horowitz, this one is set before Casino Royale and it is using, as with the previous one, some “original material written by Ian Fleming”,

A spy is dead. A legend is born. This is how it all began. The explosive prequel to Casino Royale, from bestselling author Anthony Horowitz.

M laid down his pipe and stared at it tetchily. ‘We have no choice. We’re just going to bring forward this other chap you’ve been preparing. But you didn’t tell me his name.’

‘It’s Bond, sir,’ the Chief of Staff replied. ‘James Bond.’

The sea keeps its secrets. But not this time.

One body. Three bullets. 007 floats in the waters of Marseille, killed by an unknown hand.

It’s time for a new agent to step up. Time for a new weapon in the war against organised crime.

It’s time for James Bond to earn his licence to kill.

This is the story of the birth of a legend, in the brutal underworld of the French Riviera.

Boyle is interesting because in any interview I’ve heard with him he has shied away from big budget movies after bad experiences making The Beach. I suspect because of that in the negotiations he’ll have asked for a lot of creative freedom (or as much as you could expect from a Bond film and not an indie passion project).

#710

He’ll be fine, the reason the Bond films have felt a bit disjointed is that each director has been allowed to stamp his personality on the movies.

#711

The one thing that we can expect without doubt from Boyle is a great theme song, surely?

#712

It’ll work out as well as that time Ken Russell directed a Harry Palmer movie.

#713

Good! I like ‘Billion Dollar Brain’.

#714

This makes me happy. I love Bolye as a director, and I trust him and Hodge to get Bond out of the stagnant cul-de-sac that Mendes left him in.

I’ve been reading JB series scripted by Ales Kot (from Dynamite) and can’t say I like it. To be honest, I never liked Kot’s work much, neither the guy himself. There is something creepy, unnerving about him. Now, as to get back on 007… The recent, The Gut, pits him against a group of twenty Nazis (?!), which all resolves with brutal violence. Some people complained about SJW stuff and that Kot pushed his political agenda and I agree with them. It’s bizzarre, it’s not 007, it’s the Punisher, disguised as James Bond. All in all, yuck.

#716

For me, Kot wants to be Grant Morrison but at this point, lacks the skill set to pull it off.

#717

I have a similar opinion of Kot, based on some of his creator stuff at Image from the past few years; he has talent, but his efforts feel like Morrison-Lite.

I didn’t even realise this hadn’t been officially announced yet.

#720

I thought the same. It’s been so strongly leaked I suppose that we hadn’t noticed it wasn’t officially announced.

#721

It mentions that production will begin in December for release in October 2019. Is that an unusually tight timescale? It seemed quite short to me.

#722

No, it was the same for Spectre. Skyfall started a few weeks earlier, in November.
