At first I found this epsiode quite frustrating because I had no idea what was going on, and it became obvious that it was Moffat as he has a bit of a habit of that.
However I felt it came together very well as the penny dropped with me and I did get a bit of a hairs on the back of my neck moment which was quite thrilling.
I thought Missy was utilised very well here as well.
My Doctor Who Rebirth, which I would liken this to in a sense, continues to press forward very positively.I hope it keeps it up.
Every season has had its dud epsiodes since the 2000's relaunch - so far I don't feel we've seen one on this season.
Latest episodes I've watched with my daughter have been very Eleven-oriented, incidentally. We watched The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe, The Lodger, and The Doctor's Wife.
Despite some missteps, I think the Matt Smith era is probably going to go down as a real high point for the series.
Jeez, I'd forgotten how long The Five Doctors is. I always used to watch classic Who as omnibuses, so it didn't feel that different, but reaching it in my daily Dr Who thing it really stands out. It's a bit more of a chore than I remember (though that might just be my current mood, unfortunately) and the script really is only as good as it needs to be ("easy as pi"). I would love to have seen a version with Tom Baker instead of Richard Hurndall. There are a few of his moments that feel like they were originally written for Baker and recycled when the cast was set. Would have been fun to see Baker's Doctor stuck with Tegan.
Two seasons into Davison's era now and it's ok. Hasn't quite turned into the sadistic panto I know it will by the end and going forward. Davison is good, but there's a subtle but significant change to his Doctor within the first few stories, as his youthful exuberance (a hangover from his All Creatures character?) is quickly replaced by an exasperated world weariness, which isn't as fun. It feels like Saward pushing the tone of the show away from what it wants to be.
I've decided to rate the first seven episodes of Season 10, which is inferior to Season 9, but still enjoyable.
From fewer-est to best:
Episode 4: Knock Knock - despite everyone here being evidently poirot-biased, this was shit. 2/5Episode 1: The Pilot - serviceable, but not special. 3/5Episode 6: Extremis - serviceable, but not special. 3/5Episode 0: The Return of Doctor Mysterio - some fun play with genre tropes 3.5/5Episode 3: Thin Ice - good Doctor Who. 3.5/5Episode 5: Oxygen - good Doctor Who. 3.5/5Episode 2: Smile - Good Doctor Whoo 3.5/5
Your face. (I think.)
Temba, his arms wide open
How dare you!
Extremis was great! That's what I've been waiting for. I really enjoyed the structure, with him receiving the email at the start and opening it. Awesome.

Interesting to see them actively targeting China as a big potential market for DW.
Some filming in China would be great, for the brand and the show.
Definitely. I'd love a historical in feudal China.
I'd just love a genuinely purely historical story.
I really hated "Kill the Moon" because it had terrible science, but I think it could have worked as a sort of folk tale come to life if it was set in the past.
Having it set in feudal China and a dragon hatching from the moon might have been neat.
No real spoilers here, but apparently there has been a small cut to this Saturday's episode in light of recent events.
By the sound of it, it's not dissimilar to how they trimmed Robot of Sherwood following events in the news.
Ah yes, it's one of those "everyone always remembers exactly where they were" things, when they broke the news of killer robots in the East Midlands
As I recall it was to do with ISIS beheadings.
I think my reason is less bonkers, to be honest.
I really did read that as "drone strikes in the middle east".I do apologise to the East Midlands and whatever may actually be there.
I struggled to get into tonight's episode. Can't say I'm thrilled to see the monk stuff stretch into another episode. Always nice to see Tony Gardner though.
Stealth 3-parter? Gits.
Probably the weakest ep of the series, due to how good the other eps have been, but still nowhere near bad.
