The Superhero Fantasy League All-Star Week

What would be the best creative team in comics EVER?
Welcome to the 3rd Superhero Fantasy League All-Star Week! This time we’re doing something different. Instead of voting for hero vs. hero (or villain), we’re going to vote on which of these teams we would most like to read in a real monthly comic book series. 17 of our owners have presented their hand-picked creative team to chronicle the exploits of their chosen members. All you have to do (and it’s not going to be as easy as it sounds) is choose WHICH of these teams you would most like to read. You can only choose one. OWNERS, YOU CAN NOT VOTE FOR YOUR OWN TEAM! The winning team gets a special “boon” that will greatly affect this year’s championship. Whichever team wins, the Championship will take place on their “home turf”. For example, if the Avengers win, the Championship will take place in Avengers Mansion, even if the Avengers themselves don’t make it to the Championship! But if your team does, it will certainly be a big help to fight on their terrority. It certainly made a difference in last year’s Championship!

A tough decision awaits all of us this week. Have fun!

Now, since we only have one thing to vote on this week, here’s two special announcements for team owners.

#1—As of this week, trades between team owners are now open! Whatever trades you make this week will go into effect next week, and so on! The following are the rules for trading this season (it seems a bit complicated, but it works pretty much like the ISFL did):

1. At the end of the week, you can only have two different team members than you started with. You can do multiple trades, 3-way trades, etc., all in the same week, but your roster must only have two new characters in it by the end of each week.
2. Any new characters must STILL fit in one of your six team positions (Sci-Fi, Crime, Myth, Magic, Horror, and Wildcard [Humor, War, Western, Romance]. You can move characters around to fill these slots, including both your new and existing characters. I will be the final judge on whether a character is appropriate for a chosen position.
3. You can not only trade current members of the teams, but also characters from your team or universe that you are not using. For example, Kieran has “ownership” of Iron Man, even though he is not using him, so he can trade Iron Man to me for Barry Allen, who I “own” but am not using. He could then put Barry Allen in place of the Invisible Woman, who he was using. There’s lots of little “tricks” that go with this rule which I don’t have the time to go into, but whatever you do, just make sure it’s “legal” and only two of your characters are different at the end.
4. You must still have at least one female or male on your teams at all times.
5. After each trade you make, you must post a COMPLETE roster for your entire team. This will make it easier for me to keep track of and work on the next week’s match-ups while trading is going on.

#2—Since the KIRBYVERSE vs. the LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN match-up is next week, we are going to honor the two greatest creators in comics EVER by having a JACK KIRBY VS. ALAN MOORE WEEK!

The followings teams must choose any character created or co-created by JACK KING for the 7th member slot (This character does not have to be a member of your team or universe) that is not already on another team: AVENGERS, FANTASTIC FORCE, X-MEN, SECRET AVENGERS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA, IMAGE UNITED, DIRTY FOREIGNERS, KIRBYVERSE, INDEPENDENTS

The followings teams must choose any character created or co-created by ALAN MOORE for the 7th member slot (This character does not have to be a member of your team or universe) that is not already on another team: YOUNG HEROES, DC FRINGE, LEGION, JUSTICE SOCIETY, JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL, MASTERS OF EVIL, INJUSTICE LEAGUE, MARVEL KNIGHTS, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, VERTIGO

None of these characters can be all-powerful, reality-altering, or Galactus-type beings. They must be heroes or villains depending on which type of team you have. This will also be your last chance to make a substitution outside of trading so choose well (none of these characters are eligible for any trade deals until substituted into your team next week).

That’s a lot of stuff, but it’s all pretty cool! Should be an exciting week!

I'd like Swamp Thing.

Edit: Just re-read the instructions. While Alan Moore didn't create or co-create Swamp Thing, I'd argue that issue 21 was a fundamental act of creation in terms of changing the way we look at the character.

Otherwise, I'll take Marvel Woman.

All right, sorry for the confusion but I'd like Sodam Yat as my alternative. It's a cleaner choice and let's me fix a "hole" in my team.

As promised, here is an envisioning of what would happen if the Chief and Alex Ross combined their talents... imagine what could happen if the Chief really wrote the dialogue...

Well, this is interesting. I'm not sure who Moore created - he didn't create any of the Watchmen for example. I'd like to put my name down for Marvelman and see if he's ok with Nathan.

Also, I'm open to trades and have the JLA roster at hand. PM me and let's talk!

For the Alan Moore guys there are some interesting character from his Captain Britain run: The Fury, Captain UK and various other alternative CBs with the same power set, Meggan and the Special Executive:

  • Wardog, the second leader of the Special Executive. A humanoid with a doglike appearance and a cybernetic arm. Wardog is honorable, a brilliant strategist and a capable fighter. He is the lover of the Time Lady Rema-Du. He got his cybernetic arm torn off by The Fury
  • Cobweb, the team's precognitive, and is used to a non-linear perception of time. She sometimes doesn't warn her teammates of dangers. Sometimes it's because she feels that her visions of the future can't be changed. Other times it's due to perceived personal slights, some of which are, paradoxically, only caused by her not warning the team in the first place. Cobweb was the lover of Legion.
  • Fascination, she has the ability to fly, has superhuman strength and can cause distortions in her opponent's mind, effectively stunning them. She can also teleport and track people over large distances. She is not very intelligent, unable to speak, and functions mostly on instinct. She feeds on emotions of the people around her. The stronger the emotion, the more nutritious it is for her. Another of Fascination's race, Scatterbrain, was a member of the Technet.
  • Lady Burning Fish appears to be a small, amorphous being on a floating platform. She talked in the form of poems and could generate energy blasts.
  • Legion, brother of the Technet's Thug. While his brother only has superhuman strength and durability, Legion also had the ability to create copies of himself, summoned from his own future. Legion was doomed to die when the Fury killed one of his future selfs and indeed he disappeared days later when summoned to battle the Fury.
  • Zeitgeist exists outside of time and space, making him intangible and undetectable to most opponents. When he passes through living beings while intangible, he can cause them great pain. Zeitgeist can also reform his body when damaged. Often has disagreements with Wardog and his Code of Honor. He puts getting paid over anything else.

For potential Alan Moore direct creations, I looked at:
- Marvel Woman
- Any of the Parliment of the Trees
- Mogo (who I almost took)
- TAO
- Top Ten (including the Voice)

And I'm open for trading as well for any of the non-traditional DC characters.

He had more of a part in creating The Watchmen than he did with Marvelman. At least they were analogues, Marvelman was a reboot. Marvelwoman is okay though, she never appeared in the Mick Anglo stories.

I'd say the Watchmen should be okay, otherwise all our various Superman analogues like Supreme and Hyperion would be out.

Moore did specialise at the start of his career in taking over others ideas but I think there may be a few characters to mine from his Image period. The Youngblood team that only appeared for 3 issues, Ladytron, Tao.

I'll take Iron-Man

Quote

Iron Man is a fictional superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character debuted in Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963), and was created by writer-editor Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby

Also Nate you may want to define who me and Bruce can pull from.

Like Bruce Secert Avengers and Defenders, Initiative, and Myself Migthy, New and Orginal Avengers. It could get confusing with trading still for us anyway as some of our characters have appeared on mutiple teams anyway.

Reed Richards (first choice) or TAO

Whichever one works

As for All-stars. I'm a guy who likes the indy scene and I would take the guy already putting out issues with his characters.

Jim for the win.

Not sure if he/she is back yet but the male version is the more classic appeal of the trickest. He passed on during Siege. A heroic death too Bruce. Or was it??

Hmm, you might have trouble getting him by Nathan unless you can make the case he qualifies as a hero after Siege.
