In this thread you can find some concept art from my upcoming creator owned comic series MAYA.

If you don't know me... I have worked on some Tales from the Crypt comics (Papercutz) and I'm the artist on the first two issues of Ray Harryhausen Presents: It Came From Beneath The Sea... Again! which will be out later this year from Bluewater. I work in games as an art director at Rough Sea Games (www.rough-sea.com) and in my spare time I'm developing my creator owned series MAYA.

I would love to hear your what you think of this first sketches and concepts. I'm planning to update this thread as often as possible.

For everyone who wants to see more of my stuff:
More of my art you can find in my online sketchbook at conceptart.org here: ConceptArt.org Sketchbook
You can also watch my free online video series 'Draw & Paint' Comics at vimeo here: Free Draw & Paint Comic Series (in High Def!)

So let's start...

Here is the main character looking a little younger than the later concepts:

Here is some Rough Stuff, mostly ideas for the book. Some of them has changed a little bit over time:

I hope you like this first visual stuff and I'm looking forward to your feedback.

More to come... ;)

Your artwork is amazing! I checked out your gallery as well. I love your mechanical designs! I would love to see you paired with someone with a fluid imagination like Warren Ellis or Grant Morrison or our liege, Millar. Keep up the great work!

Those pencils are really really good. It have a very Avatar look to it. However, to be critical I could do with the gravity defying pointy boobs and pokey in every shot. Can't she buy a bra?

I really like the bear. He's staring at me in an uncomfortable way. And undead lady is first rate. Who's your writer?

Dale-E: Thank you very much! That's a really nice and motivating comment! :) THANK YOU!!!

Jim Ohara: Thank you! I know about the boobs... but I like this kind of exaggerated 'style'... hehe :) Regarding the writing I'm also the writer of the books. Thank you very much!

Looks great. I also noted the pointy boobs. And further noted that exposed navels are kind of outs. Tunic shirts have been more in for quite some time now. A longer perhaps bloodstained shirt, would probably look better. Just saying. None of that matters though, because I doubt your target demographic pays much attention to what women are wearing :P

I like the hand sickles. I've always loved the dramatic shape of those.

I'm back from my vacation. It was great ;)

I've worked on some story details the last week and will start working on new concept art for the book in my spare time. Right now I really like the direction of the story and I can't wait to talk about details... ;) ... but it is too soon yet.

BTW: Over at www.rough-sea.com we have two new job offers. We are looking for a QA Manager and a Lead Programmer. So if you are interested or you know some guys who are please check it out.

Best,

Chris

your drawing skills are great, but just one thing, i hope you don't mind.. as a girl, i really hate it when guys draw women with fake breasts like that. they look like torpedoes.

stephanie familiar: Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment. I can fully understand your point and to be honest the breasts are not the only unrealistic anatomy I am using in my comic related art. I try to exaggerate my characters in a way so they are a little bit unrealistic, not too cartoony and work as a 'comic' character. I am doing this with my male characters too btw ;)

Anyhow I have to admit... the torpedo breasts are too much! :)

Here is another one of Maya... and I hope you dig it... even with this kind of breasts.

Thx again Stephanie!

I have started with the sequentials yesterday and have finished the first page so far. Because I don't want to spoil anything you have to wait for some real art but I am trying to update the thread nonetheless with other art.

Here is a testpanel I did a while ago. I was playing with different color styles for the books. This panel will not appear in the book.

Let me know what you think, expect, want to see and so on :D
