I thought that was kinda the point of the film. I'm very much in doubt about how it compares to TF2 and 3. I expect Ghost Rider 2 to be more of a terrible, but enjoyable romp, that's so bad it's good.

You may find it that bad it's good, but beyond the whole pissing flame thing and a few other psycho Cage moments, I'd say no. Posted Image

And yeah, you're right, I can't compare the Ghost Rider movies to Transformers, I just couldn't come up with an appropriate comparison...maybe Santa Claus Conquers the Martians...Posted Image

Stumbled upon this little gem today..I've never heard of "The Wicker Man", but this crazy mash-up of Cage's scenes make it look hilarious/disturbing.

Saw Monsters yesterday.

Good movie, very well done. I like how they make their points about collateral damage and the weird beauty of the aliens without belaboring them. The movie is very good at the whole showing, not telling thing.

It's a remake of a highly regarded 1973 film. To give an idea how well they did the original has 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Cage remake has 15%.

That really says nothing. Yes, the remake was crap, but reviewers were going to get their hate on no matter how good it was because the original is a cult classic.

It's a chicken and egg argument because if it is crap, as you say it is, then you'll get crap reviews to match regardless of knee jerk reactions. Jack and Jill isn't a remake of a much loved classic and has 3% because by all accounts (or 97% of them) it's shit.

It is true though that you're on a hiding to nothing remaking films like that.

No-one could make a film as quirky as the original, but they could make a good, spooky thriller with that plot.

Perhaps someone will one day. It would be worth seeing.

No, it's not a chicken and egg argument. For it to be that, the movie would have to be shit because the reviews were shit, which is obviously not the case. What I'm saying is that shit movies get shit reviews because they're shit, while remakes of cult classics get shit reviews because they're remakes even if they are not shit.

That said, I think we can agree that the remakes of cult classics that are not shit can pretty much be counted on the fingers of one foot.

Why is it obviously not the case? You said it was crap.

Did you say that because it is or by default because it's a remake of a cult classic?

That score is an accumulation of reviews and 85% of those critics didn't like it.

Did The Departed get shit reviews?

No it got 93%.

The remake of Sabrina, while not a great film, was acceptable, and has the appropriate 65%.

The remake of The Fly has 91%, because it is a great movie.

The Dawn of the Dead remake was pretty good, and has 74%.

The Get Carter remake has 12%, appropriately so, I imagine.

3:10 to Yuma and True Grit both got very good ratings.

Watched a couple things last night. Took in the entire Collision series. Did it inspire Crash? It seems like it might have but the differences are far too plentiful to be sure. Enjoyed it though.

Next up was Servants of Twilight. I enjoyed the book when I read it as a teenager (went through a Koontz phase for a while) but this seems like DTV/tv movie quality. Wasn't impressed and was a little shocked by the ending. The book ends a vague note, leaving you to decide whether or not
Spoiler

Last was The Resurrected, which was terrible frankly. Badly written and badly directed, it was way too literal in its adaptation of its Lovecraft source material at points. It was dry and dull for the most part, despite the vast quantities of blood and gore that popped up at points.

Let Me In got a few negative reviews for being a remake, and so did The Ladykillers (which is at least as good as Sabrina).

LET ME IN is pretty suck, if not complete s**t. It was well shot and the kids did good jobs, but halfway through I was saying "Let me out."

Saw CHRONICLE yesterday which is sort of a remake of AKIRA on a lower budget. In the end, like a lot of found footage movies, the format really did not serve the story. In fact, I don't really think the last act makes sense from a found footage perspective - they probably should've ditched it or just used it sparingly.

However, the story and characters worked. I don't know if it was a realistic portrayal of what bullying is like in high school today, but combined with the protagonist's home life (dying mother, abusive drunk father), I completely understood his motivation when he finally blows his stack.

Continuing to hop, skip and jump my way through (what I consider to be) the best of the ST:TNG episodes, got me to I, Borg, The Next Phase, The Inner Light and Time's Arrow Part 1 this evening.

I really had forgotten how much I loved TNG when it was coming out.
