I don't know. I just get this whole underwhelming vibe with the Lizard. I never thought he could pull off being the main big baddie, and after viewing this trailer, it's confirming my fears. I loved the trailer fully right up until then. Then it just seems like it falls short of the epic type of battles with supervillians I'm used to seeing Spiderman do. The Lizard is a fun side story, but it never even remotely gets close to the type of sinister feeling the Goblin, Kingpin, Venom, even Mysterio can pull off.
Don't get me wrong, my butt is still in the theatres for this one, but I was kind of hoping for more.

I dunno, he looks pretty dangerous. Spidey's never been about "epic" to me. He's more about the lower level stuff, and as long as you care about the outcome, the scale of the carnage doesn't matter. And the way they appear to have done that is by making it more personal - it appears as though Pete is partly responsible for having Doc Connors go lizardy.
Also... Mysterio??

I couldn't help but grin ear to ear watching that trailer. From the very little I've seen I think this might just be my favourite film of the year.
And the best part? SPIDER-MAN IS ACTUALLY FUNNY IN THIS ONE!

It looks good. I had to admit to myself, this morning, that I didn't want to like it. It's not that I wanted it to fail - I didn't...but I didn't want to like it. But...it looks REALLY good. I am pretty impressed with this, and very much anxious to see it.
One things that did tweak me...to much of Garfield's face, while in costume. Just too much. He's Spider-Man. Leave the mask ON.
Other than that...I'm thinking this is going to be pretty epic.
Am I looking forward to this more than the Avengers or TDKR? No. I think the other two movies are still going to be superior in quality. But I do believe this will be an amazing, cinematic block-buster...and much more of the Spider-Man we deserved that we got in Spider-Man 3.

All right. All right....

Why would you not want to like something?

Read an article on this, they are saving Jonah and the Bugle for the next Spidey movie becuase they don't want to rush the seriesThat would be amazing! I can fully see either of them flipping their shit at Andrew Garfield.
Maybe they're saving Jonah for the sequel once the Amazing status quo gets it's footing or once Peter starts job hunting? If he hasn't gone to the Daily Bugle yet there's no reason to include JJ in any way other than name (same with Norman now that I think about it).
This film is gonna be epic. Proberbly the best spidey film since the first Raimi movie (which was great)

It's a weird thing with me. I thought Spider-Man 2 was a perfect, superhero movie (minus the multiple unmaskings) for a long time...and then was let down by Spider-Man 3 in a serious way (Spidey was my fav' hero of all time, at this point). For the reboot to come right around the corner seemed a bit too soon (for me). Couple that with my seriously dislike of the costume design (which remains the same)...I just didn't want to like it. It's a personal cork - I completely admit that. I didn't want it to fail...I just didn't want to like it enough to go see it, and wait for the blu-ray.
Now I can't...because this looks TOO good. It looks like the Spidey movie that will do the medium as a whole, and Spidey fans as a whole - a lot of justice.

This looks fine, but again, I don't get the excitement others do. I think the potential is there, with Peter's history and his life choices seemingly at the centre of things the way they should be, but its still just another big, summer movie to me. No more and no less.
EDIT:
And regarding the mask, in a live action film 'Spider-man' film they will always take the mask off at some point. They want you to see the actor they spent so much time and money casting and they believe you need to see his expressions sometimes to get the emotion of the story.
The only way he's going to stay masked in the action scenes is if they do an animated version one day. And even then...

It'll probably work when juxtaposed against the Raimi trilogy but that's not who Spider-man is to me.
With that said, I don't really care. Batman's not an obsessive jungian head-case to me either (although he is to some people), and I liked the Dark Knight film quite a bit. Looking forward to this but not splooging all over my jeans about it either.
That's right, I said "Splooging".

Dennis Leary as Capt Stacey is a bit of inspired casting and it looks like he might steal the show.
In regards to the whole "too much unmasked spidey running around" commentary, in this day and age filmmakers have still not found a believable way to have a superhero in spandex on screen not look ridiculous. The unmasked look lends itself to a bit of realism.

Maybe, but the fact is that from the trailer we know that both Gwen Stacy and the police know who Spider-Man is by the end of the movie. That is ... not good.

The police know who he is by the end of the movie? Where do you get that from? The scene where he beats them all up?
It could be misdirection - one of those moments where they never actually get a solid look at his face, because he's moving too quickly? His head was down when he was unmasked.

Yeah, that was going to be my point. Also, even if the cops saw his face they wouldn't have a clue who he was - it's not as though they'd go "OMG! It's Peter Parker!!!"
