Jacksonville deserves Tebow, but Miami really need a QB and I'm not sure they want to resort to the draft. I think Alex Smith would be silly to leave San Fran, but then I though Manning would be silly to go to Denver. Who does he think he's going to pass to? From what I can tell, he simply fell under Elway's spell.

Nah, Smith should go to Miami. Because SF has always kind of hated him (up until sometime last season when everyone jumped on board the bandwagon). And they treated him pretty crappy. I don't blame SF for going after Manning, but to do it behind Smith's back is messed up. So if he gets a good offer from Miami (unless they go to Tebow) then he should pack his bags.

I still am a bit baffled by Manning's decision, though. Because like you say, Jim, who's he going to throw too? Then again, Manning made the Colts look way better than they were apparently, so maybe he can do that with Denver too.

That's a big contract for a 37 year old who missed last season due to major surgeries. But if Manning can play near the level he has his entire career, and can get the Broncos a Super Bowl, I guess it'll be worth it for them.

The Dolphins also picked up David Garrard, meaning that Alex Smith will probably stay in SF and who knows what'll happen with Tebow

We don't know what the contract details are. I've heard say that if anything goes wrong with his neck they're off the hook from having to pay him anything, and I'm sure most of the contract is performance related.

I think only Jacksonville wants Tebow - he'll fill the stadium and he's a local boy. Plus they don't really have Superbowl aspirations so he won't have the same pressure to perform. It'd be a good place for him, and Florida deserves him.

The punishments doled out on the Saints organization today are craaaaazy. My guess is they're being made examples of for something the whole league is doing, just like the Patriots and "Spygate".

A years suspension for Peyton? $500k? 2 2nd round picks? Nuts - a total kick in the crotch for New Orleans and Drew Brees.

And now Tebow is going to the Jets! ESPN must be exploding right now.

Yeah, Spygate was NOTHING in terms of punishment compared to this.

For Peyton to be suspended for a year over that is complete bullshit.

Something should have been done as it is against the rules to pay for specific actions. Of course, I don't know how they make that jibe with performance bonuses, but...whatever.

In any event, a years suspension for the coach seems like way to much.

It's true, but videotaping playcalls isn't the same as intentionally trying to injure another player, which could potentially result in players and owners losing lots of money and entire careers, and potentially make the overall NFL product much worse (if say a Rodgers or Brady goes out for the season).

But the punishment was very excessive given that I'm assuming every team does something similar.

You're the lawyer and not me Chewy, and obviously there's a massive grey area here, but I'd assume trying to injure another person for cash even within the context of a violent game, could fall into assault and battery? (I have no idea, I'm asking as a hypothetical)

Everytime an NFL professional tackles someone they are trying to knock them out of the game. Not specifically to hurt them....maybe. But that is the mindset that is more or less drilled into you from the minute you put on pads in Pop Warner even if it isn't always implicit. You are trying to hit the guy and you are trying to do it hard.

Which is why this whole thing seems ridiculous to me. It's like that scene from Casablanca. They are shocked, SHOCKED, to discover that there is gambling going on.

That's true but there is a difference between hitting hard and hitting to hurt. When I played basketball I knew how to foul people hard but also knew (not that I ever did it) how to hurt people, and those were ways that actually didn't involve hitting at all.

Well that blows. I wanted to see Tebow go somewhere, where we knew he'd be headlining from the start. Now, at best - he'll be contending for the top spot w/ two other guys.

If Sanchez does not make a great showing - I'm calling it now - Jets fans will be the next crowd chanting "TEBOW! TEBOW! TEBOW!"

Sanchez and Tebow will compete for the starter job; whoever loses will spend a miserable year as the backup and land somewhere else after next season. The NYC press loves QB conroversies and endless speculations on how being demoted to backup affects a players manood in real life. Sanchez is probably dying to transfer into a warm-weather team anyway.

Tim Tebow trade encounters snag

After word spread rapidly Wednesday that the New York Jets had acquired quarterback Tim Tebow from Denver for draft picks, the teams have encountered a hang-up in the language in Tebow's contract that could nullify the trade, a Broncos source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

In Tebow's contract is a $6.2 million salary advance, of which $1.2 million already has been paid by Denver, sources told Schefter. The difference of $5 million is still advanced against his future salary, and that burden would shift to the Jets in a trade. The Jets, sources said, believe the Broncos should owe Tebow that money.

The trade, then, will not be finalized until the sides resolve their differences over which should pay the money coming to Tebow.

The teams agreed to the terms of the trade -- the Jets dealt fourth-round and sixth-round selections in 2012 in exchange for Tebow and a 2012 seventh-rounder from Denver -- before the Broncos asked New York to pay back a portion of bonuses and salary already paid to Tebow, sources told Schefter.

One league source said he believes the Broncos-Jets trade will go through. Sources also said that, if the trade falls apart, the St. Louis Rams could be in play for Tebow because the Rams do not have issues with Tebow's contract that New York does.

The same money issues in Tebow's contract also caused complications for Jacksonville trying to complete a trade for Tebow earlier, sources told Schefter.

Tebow, a former first-round pick, went on the trading block Monday when the Broncos secured free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, who signed a five-year, $96 million contract.

The timing of the trade is curious.

Two weeks ago, the Jets gave Sanchez a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension, professing their faith in him even though he regressed in certain areas last season. They signed former Detroit Lions backup Drew Stanton last week to be their No. 2 quarterback, handing him a $500,000 signing bonus. They also have former Alabama star Greg McElroy.

The Jets see Tebow as a change-of-pace player with the ability to run the wildcat offense. They've used the wildcat in recent years, but cut back last season with the departure of Brad Smith. The new offensive coordinator is Tony Sparano, who introduced the wildcat to the NFL as coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Fun, fun, fun...

I'd like to think Jets fans aren't that dumb, but they're Jets fans.

I have no idea why they'd want to welcome the Tebow circus. It's like someone said ok on a dare and now they're trying to get out of it.

Tebow or Sanchez? I bet at some point next year the fans cheer for Tebow to start. The Jets just don't get it.

It is foolish for any franchise without an established and effective QB (any Franchise that doesn't have Manning[either], Brady, Brees, Rogers and Roethlesberger) to get Tebow. Anywhere he goes, the fans will go apeshit and call for Tebow to get in there whenever the first QB gets into trouble.

For Jacksonville, getting Tebow automatically increases their ticket sales and revenue to the point where Tebow could be worth 20 million dollars to get on their roster before even playing his first game with the Jags.......but that's moot now.

Chewy................................................ on the plus side, New York fans will turn on Tebow faster than the other fanbases.

Hello:

I follow NY football and I lean toward the Jets, but
I am very disappointed with this Tebow thing.

Give credit to Elway for keeping a straight face during
Tebow mania, but he himself was a Super Bowl winning
QB and knows winning football. So he got rid of Tebow
to the Jets and now the Broncos are taken seriously and
given respect and the Jets are even more of a circus now.

Interestingly, Jacksonville, IIRC, was only offering a 4th round
pick but the Jets gave 2 picks for him.

The Jets suckered themselves. Sparano can throw in more
wildcat plays to integrate Tebow and make it respectable but
I doubt it.
