Looks like we have a new mystery person in the form of the girl hacker.

It's also more than nice to see Michael Emmerson again, he was one of the best things about Lost. The action scenes are really well done (kudos!), especially the hand-to-hand fights (it's on par with Burn Notice where that is concerned). Not sure about Caviezel yet, but another thing I like is the Big Supercomputer making this all happening. I'd be very surprised if that thing didn't turn into the Big Bad at some point.

That is something I do like about the show.I also enjoy it. It's not a show that I get worked up about, I'm not burning to know the little secrets or whatever, but I really enjoy each episode for what it is.
Yes, there are "mysteries" but they don't dominate and derail the show. They have revealed some of the answers and they have been satisfying.
Also, the mysteries are more "street-level", if that makes sense. I think that is part of the appeal. It's not some supernatural or sci-fi "save the world" that requires a very large suspension of disbelief. You can see something like The Machine actually existing. While some of the tech and hacking has been TVed up, it still has an air of plausibility. It's a smart show but not so esoteric that it alienates viewers.
Like I said in the Alcatraz thread, I think if Phillip K Dick had come up with a police procedural TV show, this would be it.

I actually kind of like that - for me, they could've exaggerated that brokenness a bit more.

Only if Reese at some point finds out that he's not actually John Reese and that there actually never was a John Reese and that Finch brainwashed a nameless soldier and gave him all those fake memories (including that about his girlfriend), a plan all conceived by the Machine with the aim of setting it free. Or is that true? Or is that what The Enemy wants him to think so he'll stop working with Reese?

I like how they're expanding out some of the back-story and mythology.

What's a niggle? Any relation to a nitpick? Or is it in the family of the quibble?

The good parts were learning about Reese's time on the streets as a homeless person and the woman who helped him during this time plus the return of Elias.
Reese and Finch have a good group of enemies now, there's Elias, there's Snow, and there's Root.

I like how the show has gone about its world-building. It has been gradual and not overwhelming. I also like that they use flashbacks sparingly and when they do, they make them count.
With everything the producers are setting up, the season finale is going to be insane.

It's a grumble-in-law.
Last night's episode was just as guilty, I'm afraid. They are still using voice-overs and exposition to join scenes together in what feels like post-production angst. Generally it's okay, but I'd like the stories to be a bit tighter so we don't have Finch say "I've just discovered that Person X is in trouble with Organisation Y and managed to hack their system so that's why I've sent you to Place Z...." when Reese already knows that information and it's for our sake. It's... clumsy.
But I agree the mythology is building nicely.

As others have compared this show as a Batman-type show, it makes sense that they would have a group of interesting villains as well as I've always felt that Batman has had the best rogues gallery. And now POI is building a good one as well.

As the clock ticks down, Reese winds up trapped with his POI in the most heavily surveilled part of the city, forced to rely on the help of Finch, Carter and Fusco to fend off the FBI, corrupt cops and a slew of old foes.

I hope the show gets officially renewed soon. It isn't perfect, but it's definitely got room to grow...
It already was renewed back on March 14 when CBS announced a lot of renewals for a majority of their shows, 18 of them. Season finale details were given out on March 22. Then on Monday CBS annouced that both Person of Interest and Unforgettable would get one extra episode and be 23 episodes long in their first seasons.

Elias is one of those bad guys that you like on some level especially after his backstory was revealed more this week with the flashbacks.
I'm guessing he's one of the old enemies that will return in the season finale.
