It just is not good enough to be "must see" for me.

Jilll and I saw an advert for it last night. Both of us had exactly the same reaction "What the fuck is the point in that?"
I can see why from a TV exec point of view (interest will be high on the release of the 3D version of the movie) but from a creative point of view? I'm at a loss. Hasn't this story been told enough?

(Not saying that that is what this is.)

Unfortunately for the TV version I think Cameron covered the class divide stuff very well. He did it very efficiently and used it as backdrop for his Romeo and Juliet couple but he did it none the less.I don't know, the Cameron movie is very much focused on Leo's and Kate's story and the catastrophe itself. If you talk more about what went before, what went into that ship, and about the society on board of it (which is an analogy for the society of this time in itself), and maybe its aftermath... the story of the Titanic itself is a fascinating part of British history, and there's a lot of ways to go with it. I don't have a lot of interest in seeing this, but it's not really because of the Cameron movie.
Half the shots in the trailer, half the points made, half the conflicts and confrontations looked like they were lifted straight out of Cameron's film.
If this was about the aftermath, or the optimism before, or the conspiracy theories or any number of other things that weren't covered in a three hour motion picture that everyone has seen at least once then I'd say it was a better choice of project.
It'll probably get good ratings and it might even be a good piece of work but I wont be onboard.
I do. I don't think Fellowes does (probably) but thats what it looks like.Doing a TV rip-off of successful movies isn't uncommon, so I assume it generally works.

Eh, you do know that it sank 100 years ago next month? . . . people love centenary years . . . also why Cameron chose this year for the 3D version . . .Re: Titanic TV series.

I didn't know that. Maybe if there had been a factual program / documentary on rather than yet another drama set against historical event I'd have realised that.
I'm sure there'll be factual programs, too.

"Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman marks the centenary of the Titanic tragedy with a three-part series exploring the wider impact of the disaster. He discusses his own connection to the event, revealing how he once worked for a welding company that helped build the liner between 1909 and 1912. He also meets the families of people who died on board the ship, and hears the stories of the survivors, for whom the experience had a longer lasting effect"
There'll definitely be more in the next few weeks.

Yeah, I think the movie really covered the "semi-historical drama" Titanic for a while. It's better to stick to "hard historical light-dramas", like the one History Channel did a few years back, where they had a few interpersonal dramas to show the "man on the street" angle to the situation, but the bulk of the show was narrated explanation of what was going on.

I can't wait for History Channel's "How Alien Nazis Sank the Titanic!"
