How did it fall apart at the end? It's pretty bleak, but the ending works I think.

EDIT: I just tried to watch the new AbFab - had to switch off after 5 minutes before I put my foot through the TV.

Ok, the central idea of the film is that

Overall, I liked the film and thought it had some really powerful moments,

but thought it was too bad that the ending didn't work nearly as well.

'The Borrowers' on BBC1, with Christopher Ecclestone, Victoria Wood and (soon) Stephen Fry.

So far, so good. :)

The trailer was enough to convince me of that. It was essentially just him knocking things over.

Just finished watching RDJ & Jude Law's initial Sherlock Holmes movie, in preparation for seeing the sequel tomorrow afternoon with my lovely wife :). Really enjoyed it - as I hadn't watched it since' it was in theatres. Very much looking forward to the next chapter.

We may throw in the new Mission Impossible after that, as well for grins & giggles.

And it was pretty good. Not excellent, some big shifts in the story now and again, but it looked good and the cast all gave it their best. It was decent, BBC Christmas entertainment.

'Up Pompeii', the film.

Very much 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' on a lower budget, with less singing, but still good, undemanding fun. Posted Image

Saw Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo yesterday. Very good remake, with just enough changes to keep it fresh without altering the story. For reasons which have nothing to do with Daniel Craig, I'd quite like to see Fincher do a Bond movie now.

Saw Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo yesterday. Very good remake, with just enough changes to keep it fresh without altering the story. For reasons which have nothing to do with Daniel Craig, I'd quite like to see Fincher do a Bond movie now.

I remember about a decade or so ago, Tom Cruise's production company Cruise/Wagner was trying to develop Poe's novella THE NARRATIVE OF A. GORDON PYM. I think John Logan (Gladiator, Hugo, many other big movies) even wrote a draft of the screenplay, but it never got far.

Lovecraft called AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS an unofficial sequel to PYM (Jules Verne's An Antartic Mystery was also an intentional sequel to the story), so maybe that had something to do with Tom Cruise agreeing to join Guillermo Del Toro and James Cameron's doomed attempt to put Lovecraft's story on screen, but I think I'd rather see Fincher handle something like Pym or possibly another Poe story and make it work for modern audiences.

I don't think THE RAVEN will really reintroduce the author any more than TOTAL RECALL had much to do with P. K. Dick's fiction.

Ironically, my first introduction to Poe were the lurid Roger Corman adaptations that usually starred Vincent Price. I think the Raven will probably be more in that vein.

Does he give any insight into how it went off the rails?
