I am not yet impressed, but maybe 'The Avengers' being so much fun makes this look less interesting?

Nolan's 'Batman' is just from a different world.

I liked the trailer more when I rewatched it, but I'm not sold yet.

Still going to see it of course. :)

So what's not in there? No Marion Cotillard and none of the exotic locations.

Speculation continues... :)

Yeah, I'm sorta in the same frame of mind. As much as I like Nolan's Batman, movies, I've always been a bit put off by the tone and themes of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Honestly, I think it's the fascism-lite style and feeling in the movies. But, then again, I think that's a general problem with the basic concept of vigilante heroes - after all, the first blockbuster movie about a costumed vigilante was...

And Ben Cameron ("The Clansman") and Bruce Wayne ("The Batman") share some disturbingly similar character traits.

I think I'll always like Tim Burton's Batman movies a little more.

I LOVE the Dark Knight trailer and one of the specific reasons is that it IS so different from the Avengers in tone. It proves that there's enough material and enough different talented directors to make a breadth of material work.

Right now, based on seeing The Avengers film and seeing this Batman trailer, I see no real reason that both movies shouldn't be in my personal Top Five of the year.

I'm willing to make a bet that that Gordon Levitts dude is going to end up as some kind of successor to Batman. Maybe Robin or Nightwing or Batman the second, or some other masked crimefighter type.

Of course I don't make bets for real money, just imaginary.

I am thoroughly amazed by the trailer, and continue to anticipate this being the best movie of the year for me.

It gave us a bit more of a peek into Catwoman, which I am thankful for.

The 2nd trailer was far more ominous (and probably better), but there are some sick shots in this one. A rooftop rumble, a legitimate, standing-skyscraper shot, and others. Super stoked for this.

There's a very quick scene of Bruce kissing Cotillard in the trailer, but I think that's it. I thought the trailer was pretty cool. Though I did feel that the final little scene felt a bit out of place with the rest of the trailer, which was incredibly serious. Not the greatest trailer, and it doesn't really amp me up for the movie, but to be fair I was already completely sold on this movie the moment The Dark Knight ended 4 years ago. Also, it's hard for me to look past The Avengers right now, which I'm very excited to see. And I think it's great that TDKR and Avengers are so thoroughly different in tone.

I've no doubt that come July I'm going to itching to see The Dark Knight Rises.

Yeah, same here. I love the quiet tone of the trailer, there's a mood of desperation and fatalism in the face of a coming apocalypse. Very nice.

The trailer looks good, but I'm not fussed.

If it's anything like the others, i'll be bored to tears after the first ten minutes.

Meh.......

Well, if you didn't like the other two, you're clearly not the target audience. Posted Image

Yeah, the tone of the trailers is generally all about suffering. Suffer the suffering!

My favourite part of that trailer is that tiny, blink-and-you-miss-it shot of a bat-sigil being drawn on the wall in chalk by someone. It instantly reminded me of the way that Morrison has in the comics used the bat-symbol to represent a beacon that you can use to invoke the spirit of Batman, no matter where (or when) you are. I love the idea that Batman's symbol could somehow come to represent a movement against crime for the people of Gotham: could the title refer to him inspiring them to rise up against Bane and the League of Shadows?

I am not yet impressed, but maybe 'The Avengers' being so much fun makes this look less interesting?

Yeah, it's interesting that comicbook movies are starting to mirror the trends of the comics themselves. It feels like we're coming to the end of the grim'n'gritty era of superhero movies (although I don't doubt that Nolan's final Batman outing will make a fantastic capstone) and people are ready for some more colour, fun and optimism again.

I'm willing to make a bet that that Gordon Levitts dude is going to end up as some kind of successor to Batman. Maybe Robin or Nightwing or Batman the second, or some other masked crimefighter type.

In one of the old threads we did discuss the possibility that Nolan is going to kill off Bruce and have him hand the mantle on to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character. The only thing that makes me question that now is that this latest trailer is leaning so heavily on the idea that Bruce is going to give his life to Gotham that it makes me think it's misdirection. Perhaps Nolan is going to lift the end of Miller's DKR and have Bruce fake his own death to go underground and start a revolution.

I felt the same way. They seemed to be pushing the idea that Bruce would die too hard.

I'm getting a lot of a DKR vibe from this as well. Bane and his men seem something like a combination of the League of Shadows and the Mutants in Miller's GN.

It may be so for superhero movies, but if they're making that shift I'm not sure they're reflecting the comic trends - heard the declaration that gritty was over an awful lot over the last few years, but it never really happened.

I liked it too. And I think they're avoiding the hard sell because I can't imagine there's anyone who doesn't know whether or not they're going to be going to see this movie.

And while I can understand the people who don't like the dark tone... surely you're not too surprised by it? :)

I loved the trailer!!! But than again I loved the first 2 films as well. I like the tone of this trailer. It gives you an eerie feel to what is happening within Gotham.

This is my most anticipated film of this year! Now I can't wait for this movie.

People in my twitter feed were talking about how hilarious this trailer is, so I checked it out. I didn't think it was very funny but I could see where they were coming from. It does kind of seem like a spoof.

I think Nolan walks a fine line between drama and melodrama, and if you're not in the right frame of mind for his movies, they can easily seem preposterous.

I'm not sure his Batman movies will age particularly well, but that's fine - the same can be said of a lot of movies. I find a lot of the big action movies from the 80's impossible to watch, other than as guilty pleasures.
