I got Mafia 2 in the post yesterday... Pretty good so far, I really like 40's setting, certainly better than that other well known free-roaming crime game...

I actually think I'd far prefer to see GTA start experimenting with different periods rather than maintaining the modern setting. It worked great in the 1980s-set Vice City, and the 90s vibe was pretty fun in San Andreas too.

I also totally forgot about the collectable playboy centerfolds... that is certainly a reason to play any game...

I went to buy the new Zelda game today and didn't realize you were required to have Wii Motion Plus to play it. So it'll cost me $70-$100 to play a game with the best graphics 2003 has to offer, intended to play on TVs from 1987, and I get a landfill-fodder peripheral to go with it? Go screw yourself Nintendo.

(OK, I did buy 3-D Mario Land instead)

But you forget, it's Zelda. I paid $250 for the last one, so $75 is nothing.

If you're referring to the Wii, at least you got some other cool games out of it- Kart, the Mario Galaxies, some Metroid, Kirby, DK, Muramasa, Paper Mario, Epic Mickey, stuff like that. If you wanted.

Motion Plus lets you also play.......Wii Resort? And some dancing crap?

True, I did later get Mario Kart and Epic Mickey, but much later, well after the system had dropped in price by about $50-100, and I wouldn't have bought the system to play Mario Kart (but maybe for Epic Mickey). It's all about the killer ap.

Yeah, but it's $20, 25% the cost of a Move control rig, and 13% of a Kinect. It's not a gimmick, from what I hear the Plus controls are essential to the control of the game, and the control of the game is essential to the experience, so it's a small price really, even if I never play another Wii game again (which is quite possible since I haven't touched the thing in nearly a year).

i just started playing the two-year-old splosion man on xbla. it's pretty effing fun, and it's giving me the desire to play more platformers. may need to pick up the new rayman game when it comes down in price, because it looks like hours of gorgeous enjoyment.

other than that, playing uncharted 3: drake's deception. it's a marvelous game, but i can understand people feeling slightly disappointed with it, especially since i just completed uncharted 2: among thieves. it's just not so large a leap in quality and scope as the move from the first to the second game is. it's maybe not fair to compare it this way, but naughty dog should be proud for being so skilled as to create such expectations.

one frustration with the game: while it's great that nathan drake has all these cool running animations, like stumbling around in response to a shaking environment, or taking a few steps before turning around when changing direction, there are times when i just need him to WALK IN A STRAIGHT DAMN LINE, and he's too busy being well-animated to comply. in one level i fell victim to a pursuing environmental threat (trying to avoid spoiler) simply because i couldn't walk up the 6' wide ramp to the next area.

Just got the Platinum trophy in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. That makes 7 I have in total now. Going to try to get in to Batman: Arkham City next as I really haven't played more than an hour or so of that one yet.

Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 . . . haven't read and only seen the first movie, but I do enjoy these Lego games . . . not overly difficult and a bit light on the old ultra-violence . . . heard next one is Batman 2 which will include the rest of the DCU . . .

Why didn't you just buy the version of Zelda that comes with a Motion Plus integrated Wii remote? Yes still a little bit more than the game itself, but it gives you another remote (always handy) and it's gold!

I've been replaying Super Mario World recently. So much fun. Worried by how much of the music I can hum/whistle off by heart though.

Anyone got Saints Row: The Third? I am so looking forward to it! I fancy some mindless fun and/or violence after the amount of college work I have and playing Arkham City to death.

I got 28 hours out of it and I've still got a little bit to do It is the most fun I've had with a video game in ages. Think I'll revisit it once I complete Dead Island (which will probably be this evening as I just got on to the final chapter last night).

Finished Dead Island this evening. Really enjoyed it, more so than most people who posted about it on here. I didn't really have any respawning problems and just had a whale of a time hitting things with a variety of melee weapons.

Next up is the newest Spider-Man game Edge of Time.

Playing more Mario World. I've had this game since the late 90s and I'm still finding new things in it (thanks to 20 years of accumulated knowledge on the internet). Case in point, the secret exit on Cheese Bridge Area that leads to Soda Lake. For years I tried to find the secret exit on that level and kept thinking it was to do with the optional flying Yoshi section. Instead, the secret exit is hidden after the regular exit. You'd only ever know to get to it if you'd been told about it. Both annoying and cool. Especially cool because it means Soda Lake is a level I have absolutely never played before.

I heard that Edge of Time is decent-ish if you're a fan. Let me know, I've been in two minds about playing it for a while. The costumes are a huge incentive though since there isn't a single one I dislike.

Edge of Time made IGN's "biggest disappointments of 2011" list.

I played twenty min of Edge of Time last night and it sounds like IGN hot the nail on the head. It's a real step backwards from Shattered Dimensions. Horrible camera angles and (a real sin in a Spidey game) the web-slinging is uncontrollably bad. Waste of a rental - I can't see myself finishing it.

Downloaded an update for Edge of Time. Maybe this'll make it not suck...
