Syfy Orders Script Based on DC Comics' 'Booster Gold' (Exclusive)

Syfy is looking to bring Booster Gold to life on the small screen.

The NBCUniversal cable network has ordered a pilot script for the one-hour drama based on the DC Comics franchise.

The project, which hails from Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television, will count Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, No Ordinary Family, Green Lantern) as an executive producer. Fringe's Andrew Kreisberg, who collaborated with Berlanti on ABC's Eli Stone, is on board to pen the script and executive produce. DC Comics will also receive an EP credit.

The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.

The comic book character made an appearance in the 10th and final season of the CW's Smallville, where it gained still more fans.

Berlanti and Kreisberg, whose other credits include Warehouse 13 and Red Faction: Origins, are both repped by WME.

I wonder if they will keep the overt superhero angle from the comics and Smallville or make it something more like the life of Steve Jobs mixed with The Man Who Fell To Earth?

Question for the board
I haven't seen Green Lantern. I know it's bad, but is it enjoyably bad?

Of all the stuff in that DC teaser I'm looking forward to the LEGO thing the most! Also, the DIY Batman tweaked my interest too:

Anyone got any idea what it is?!?

Have you seen Batman and Robin, Ghost Rider, or Catwoman? Because I'd say all of those are far worse than Green Lantern. The worst that I'd say about Green Lantern is that it's a mediocre superhero film that would have been much better received if it had come out 5-10 years ago (pre-Batman Begins/Iron Man).

I've never seen Catwoman but Ghostrider and Batman & Robin are at least entertainingly bad, which doesn't seem to be the case with Green Lantern.

I think being completely bland and mediocre is, in a lot of ways, worse than being spectacularly bad.

Kurtwood Smith will voice Lieutenant (keyword: Lieutenant) Gordon in Beware the Batman!

"We just started. We've only recorded two, before Christmas. I like the general thrust of the show. It's early in the Batman story. Commissioner Gordon isn't even Commissioner yet, he's just Lieutenant Gordon. He doesn't trust Batman, even though they kind of end up helping each other out on an early case. Batman, in a lot of ways, is learning his way, and the relationship between he and Alfred is developing. It's fun and it's kind of straight in that regard, as opposed to being campy. I think it's going to be good, but it won't be out for at least a year or so."

Speaking of DC cartoons: I'm really starting to miss Young Justice. I wasn't fussy about the stealth suits and undercover angle at first, but they actually do work in the show (particularly in the episode where Superboy and Miss Martian go undercover in a prison full of supervillains). There have been some very cool episodes (Superboy and the Forever People) but it's been so long between breaks (6 months or more) that waiting for new episodes is a pain. Apparently season 2 is already being planned and some episodes have been written, but the the last 7 or 8 episodes of season 1 have yet to air.

Also, the Green Lantern animated series debuted quite some time ago (feels like forever) and while it wasn't really my cup of tea, I'm surprised no other episodes have been released. Although I think they may be waiting for the DC Nation thing to debut to show new episodes of both this and YJ.

Animated Long Halloween would be nice, especially if done in the Tim Sale art style.
