That's all well and good for people who already subscribe to HBO, but I'd think a lot of those people have already watched season 1. It's kind of short sighted on HBO's part. Release the season 1 DVD to try to hook non-HBO customers. But whatever. I've got HBO so it's no big deal to me.
That's just stupid. They do realise that people can download stuff off the internet, don't they?
Should've gotten the DVDs out for Christmas. Tsk.

As someone who has HBO on-the-go, I have to say it's all kinds of awesome. Can't believe I get it for free, just for subscribing to HBO.

So I bought it from Amazon, who took a share of that purchase and HBO made a little less on the sale (as they will have done on many others).
I'm sure there was a meeting and pros and cons were debated before the decision was made to release the 'Game of Thrones' DVD's next year.
It's still a bad decision and it will have cost them money. They'll shift DVDs next year, but it's not like having another Christmas.

Looks lovely.
I'm not really a fan of the huge foldout DVD holder. Those are cumbersome and kind of annoying. Just a minor pet peeve. Does look like a nice set.

When you finally get to watch the new season premiere, be sure to have ready a batch of horse-heart cupcakes!
I have a better idea, that might even stay down.

I tried the books years ago but found it a bit too harsh and nasty for my liking, but what I sometimes can't get on with in book form I can watch far more easily and vice versa.

Current plans are to split Book 3 over seasons 3 and 4 . . . so with the books only getting fatter that's going to run to 10-15 seasons . . . has HBO ever sustained interest in a show for that long?

HBO I'm not sure of, but Fox kept 'The X-Files' going for 9 seasons and it wasn't drawn from a series of successful novels. So, how many seasons do people reckon it'll run for?

I'm sure the 'GoT' story is strong enough, but who know what might get in the way? I think it's possible they could do it though.

I don't think it'll be as straight an adaptation as we've seen so far. The first season's stuck pretty closely to the first book, but they've already said that the second season will bring in and conflate elements from the third book, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if books four and five are abbreviated for the TV version.
A mate who read Dance of Dragons would probably want them to abbreviate it! His words: Martin had done a Jordan, lots of pages, lots of words but not a whole lot happened.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been on for a really long time. Entourage lasted 8 seasons, I think. The Sapranos and Sex and the City had 6 seasons. True Blood is going into it's 5th season (and I'd suspect will go on longer than that). So yeah, they've had their share of long running shows.

I've heard that criticism before. My brother's ex described "A Feast For Crows" as being "as long as the bible, and twice as boring." But as for me personally I don't agree at all. Yeah, it spends a lot of time with the characters rather than moving the plot forward, but Martin's minutia is much more interesting than Jordan's was.
