That's all well and good for people who already subscribe to HBO, but I'd think a lot of those people have already watched season 1. It's kind of short sighted on HBO's part. Release the season 1 DVD to try to hook non-HBO customers. But whatever. I've got HBO so it's no big deal to me.

That's just stupid. They do realise that people can download stuff off the internet, don't they?

Should've gotten the DVDs out for Christmas. Tsk.

Yeah, a Christmas release would have made far more sense. Plenty of holiday sales to be had while also giving people enough time to actually watch the DVDs, get hooked, and MAYBE subscribe to HBO because they don't want to wait a whole year for season 2. The March DVD release won't have those kinds of benefits. It really wasn't a well thought out strategy for HBO.

I can only guess that they want to release the DVD's before the start of series 2 and didn't want to get caught up in the Christmas glut.

As someone who has HBO on-the-go, I have to say it's all kinds of awesome. Can't believe I get it for free, just for subscribing to HBO.

A few years back I went direct to HBO's online shop to buy some 'Entourage' stuff (back when the show was good) but they only ship inside the USA.

So I bought it from Amazon, who took a share of that purchase and HBO made a little less on the sale (as they will have done on many others).

I'm sure there was a meeting and pros and cons were debated before the decision was made to release the 'Game of Thrones' DVD's next year.

It's still a bad decision and it will have cost them money. They'll shift DVDs next year, but it's not like having another Christmas.

Looks lovely. Hopefully the set comes out here the same time as the US. Amazon UK haven't updated their page yet.

When you finally get to watch the new season premiere, be sure to have ready a batch of horse-heart cupcakes!

I'm not really a fan of the huge foldout DVD holder. Those are cumbersome and kind of annoying. Just a minor pet peeve. Does look like a nice set.

Damn that set looks nice.... and only makes the decision to not release it now even more dumb! That kind of set would sell stupidly well at this time of year. It's cold, dark, perfect for DVDs!

I tried the books years ago but found it a bit too harsh and nasty for my liking, but what I sometimes can't get on with in book form I can watch far more easily and vice versa.

So, how many seasons do people reckon it'll run for?
Current plans are to split Book 3 over seasons 3 and 4 . . . so with the books only getting fatter that's going to run to 10-15 seasons . . . has HBO ever sustained interest in a show for that long?

I don't think it'll be as straight an adaptation as we've seen so far. The first season's stuck pretty closely to the first book, but they've already said that the second season will bring in and conflate elements from the third book, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if books four and five are abbreviated for the TV version.

HBO I'm not sure of, but Fox kept 'The X-Files' going for 9 seasons and it wasn't drawn from a series of successful novels.

I'm sure the 'GoT' story is strong enough, but who know what might get in the way? I think it's possible they could do it though.

A mate who read Dance of Dragons would probably want them to abbreviate it! His words: Martin had done a Jordan, lots of pages, lots of words but not a whole lot happened.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been on for a really long time. Entourage lasted 8 seasons, I think. The Sapranos and Sex and the City had 6 seasons. True Blood is going into it's 5th season (and I'd suspect will go on longer than that). So yeah, they've had their share of long running shows.

I've heard that criticism before. My brother's ex described "A Feast For Crows" as being "as long as the bible, and twice as boring." But as for me personally I don't agree at all. Yeah, it spends a lot of time with the characters rather than moving the plot forward, but Martin's minutia is much more interesting than Jordan's was.

I think he's a much better writer than Katie Price.
