Just finished watching the first season. Pretty good stuff. Loved the stuff with Danerys (sp?) and the Imp especially. The young girl (Aya? Forget her name) training to be a warrior is a nice storyline as well.

Also picked up the first book in the series yesterday and started reading that as well. About five chapters in so far. Pretty good so far, but the TV show seems to elaborate or explore some stuff that (so far) isn't in the book.

Arya and the Imp are the highlights of the show . . . they've got to team up at some point?

Does anyone have any idea when the second series is due to air?

No air date is set for it yet, but it is expected to air in Spring of 2012. Apparently they've cast a lot of new characters/actors for the new season which makes sense since

More over it makes sense because those characters are a big part of the second book (and possibly beyond, I'm still making my way through number 2).

Hannah Murray (Cassie from Skins) is Gilly: http://www.westeros....try/Gilly_Cast/

Happy with this; I've missed Murray since Skins S2 ended. She was fantastic.

Murray looks exactly the way I pictured Gilly, albeit a bit younger. Awesome choice.

More casting news:

Robert Pugh will play Craster:

Michael McElhatton will play Roose Bolton. Always pictured Roose with long hair (which they may still do, for all we know), but just look at McElhatton's face! Man, perfect.

Karl Davies will be playing Alton Lannister, a character original to the show.

And best of all: Dolorous Edd is in! Ben Crompton has been cast in the role

Gemma Whelan will be playing Yara Greyjoy, which is what Asha will be called in the show, to avoid confusion with Osha the wildling:

Nonso Anozie will play Xaro Xhoan Daxos:

Kerr Logan will play Mathos Seaworth:

Um, ok... Not like the books already have a huge cast that's being cut down for the show already or anything.

And renaming Asha? Lame and an insult to the intelligence of the viewer.

I don't really care. They've done it already anyway, when they renamed Robert Arryn Robin.

Nothing wrong with being neat and tidy. It's a skill many of us lack.

As for the extra Lannister, I doubt he's been created on a whim. The important question is whether his first scene will be some sexposition with Cersei or not?

I maybe wrong but Podrick Payne never appeared in the first season did he? Maybe the new Lannister will sort of fill his role.

That's not so bad because a) he's called Robin now and then anyway (Sweet Robin at least) and there's another character with the same name. But renaming Asha because it sounds a bit like Osha is ridiculous. By that logic they should have renamed Robb Stark because it's too much like Robert. And Tywin and Tyrion as well. And Viserys and Varys. Even Sansa and Cersei by this logic.

And Steve, 'sexposition' is a great term.

I'm not really bothered by the renaming of Asha, but it is kind of pointless. Also kind of funny because in the books they actually make reference about how similar their names are. On a side note, I didn't even know what Osha's name was from watching the show. It was really tough for me to keep track of a lot of the smaller characters names before I started reading the books.

I've just been wondering how much the average viewer will be put off once the fantasy elements really start to kick in . . .
