Following on from the covers thread (and the "familiarity" thread...)
I'm guessing most of you know this...
But how many of you know this? (The sampled bit comes at around 2.08)
(Amongst the session musicians on that track were Chas & Dave. I heard somewhere they got some royalties from it)
Then there's this pop number from a few years back. Like the guitar part?
Here's where they found it.
Sample and source

You know that song by that band in the 90s that samples a violin riff from an orchestral Rolling Stones cover?
I quite liked that

This one?
EDIT: Great video too, firmly cementing Richard Ashcroft's asshole status.

And because they didn't clear the sample properly, The Verve made no money at all from the song.
Also, are we just going for songs that use samples from other songs, or are we going for any samples at all? I listen to a lot of songs that use movie clips...

That's incredible, far more complicated than I thought.
Speaking of The Prodigy, this:
Includes a section of this (0.34)
And this hip hop classic:

This is sampled in a few songs (05.35) - list here: http://www.the-break... Drummer&type=4
There's a lot of samples involved in this:
But two great ones are:
(I bloody love this!)
and
Guitar by the awesome Vic Flick (Check him out). Dude in the check shirt is a young Oliver Reed.

Do we have several hours to go through the Avalanches album?

This classic Dr. Dre/Snoop "jam"...
...takes a lot of its coolness from Illya Kuryakin. Yes, this is what David McCallum does when he's not being cool on TV - he's cool on record.
Dre again, this time backing up 2Pac - he gets by with a little help from his friends...
...as does this guy:
Pick a track, pick the coolest sample sources, go crazy.

Bringing his "Big Willie Style", here's Mr Smith and company... (sorry)
...and here's Mr Wonder. Show 'em how it's done, Stevie.
Here's Coolio (and L.V., of course)...

It's not just rappers. Here's Greebo/Industrial metal awesomeness from Pop Will Eat Itself
And here's industrial metal awesomeness from Ministry:
Though like Laibach and cover versions, I could probably devote a threat to PWEI's samples. Their motto was Sample it, loop it, fuck it and eat it; after all

This monstrosity by a talentless person called (I think) Hell Rell:
Uses, uncredited and without permision, a pitch-shifted sample from this:

This one is a cover and sample, but I'm putting it in here.
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Behind The Mask (Lyrics written by Chris Mosdell)
Then covered by Greg Phillinganes (With Mosdell's lyrics complemented by additional lyrics by Michael Jackson who recorded it to go onto Thriller, but it didn't actually get released until last year)
Phillinganes' version was then covered by Eric Clapton (with keyboards and backing vocals by Phillinganes)
And then, finally, the Phillinganes version was sampled for this masterpiece:
