This has some relevance here, I think. [And of course mods can feel free to move it if necessary]

Director Tony Scott has died in an apparent suicide at age 68.

Condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.

Tony Scott Commits Suicide By Jumping Off LA Bridge

"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.

His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.

Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.

Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.

The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.

Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

RIP. What a sad end.

EDIT: Didn't see there was already a thread about this in the Comics forum.

Firstly RIP and I hope his family and friends get the help and support they're going to need right now.

Secondly of course, I'm wondering why? I know his brother Ridley has spoken occasionally of his own experiences with depression for example, but not in any way that sounded life threatening?

But since there's a note I guess that the people he left behind will get answers and I hope that, whatever those answers are, that helps them in the days to come.

Very shocked and saddened to hear about this earlier. He was a talented chap who was able to insert his own sense of style in films, even when working on Hollywood blockbusters. He was still going strong until the end and I was looking forward to some of his future projects.

RIP Tony Scott.

Sad news, a talented director who produced a bunch of great movies (Crimson Tide is probably my favourite).

RIP

It seems he had an inoperable brain tumor.

Still no matter the reason, it's an awful loss for his family.

As I said in the comics forum. Very sad indeed. He was an inspiration to me as I learned the craft of storytelling. I loved many of his films and their visual styles. Sad day.

I'll be watching a Man on Fire tonight!

I was far more upset about this than I thought I would be. He made a lot of really great movies, and a couple of dogs, but probably more good than bad. Maybe not. At least I like to think so.

I had forgotten that he made Spy Game, and I loved Man on Fire. However my vote for favourite Tony Scott film ever is The Last Boy Scout.

Yeah, loved Man on Fire, Last Boy Scout, and I'm sure that Nemesis would have turned out awesome too, I remember jumping up and down in my seat when reading that news.. Man...
