A dark Knight style grim and gritty Justice League movie? I dunno. Commercially it makes sense to tie into the Superman and Batman styles as that's DC's place right now, but Green Lantern bombed by trying to go in that direction.
Green Lantern was meant to be 'grim and gritty'?

Affleck is a director?

He did Gone Baby Gone and The Town. Both are good. Gone Baby Gone is much better in my opinion, but The Town shows reasons why he'd be a good JL director (more of an ensemble, more balls in the air, bigger stage).

And Affleck made a great Superman in Hollywoodland.
It was about as 'grim and gritty' as the Care Bears.Green Lantern was meant to be 'grim and gritty'?

Still it's likely Affleck will not accept and WB does not expect him to say yes. The buzz is starting but until they see Man Of Steel, I doubt WB will seriously start work adapting the rest of the DCU
His people are already saying he won't do it: http://www.deadline....s-camp-says-no/

if affleck directs it will be perfectly grim and gritty or or super cheesy and over the top. i dont think he has ever directed anything with cg and justice league would have to have quite a lot.
That doesn't really matter. It's not as though he'd be creating the CG on a computer in his bedroom - he'd be working with a team of people who'd allow him to work the way he feels most comfortable, then go away and do the job for him.

"Every day I come by your house and I pick you up, Superman. And we go to the hall of justice. We have a few drinks, and a few laughs, and it's great. But you know what the best part of my day is? For about ten seconds, from when I pull up to the curb and when I get to your door, 'cause I think, maybe I'll get up there and I'll knock on the door and you won't be there. No goodbye. No see you later. No nothing. You just left."

The question then is, who SHOULD they hire? Nolan's obviously out, David Yates is busy....hell if they wait long enough George Miller may become available again.

That is very unlikly but would be great.
After that I would go with Ridley Scott.

Favreau could do it. He'd at least help them steer it away from the ill-advised grim n' gritty path, while still keeping it smart and grounded.
