My friend Magnus Aspili asked me to post this here. He is doing a new anthology. I'm copying the press release and then the link to the actual page.

Remember when anthologies were sexy, bold and good?

The Outré anthology is the brainchild of Norwegian comic book creators Magnus Aspli and Glenn Møane. Both fans of short stories, we started toying around with the idea of launching an online anthology with a strong emphasis on quality and meaning. The anthology will feature stories by creators who have something to say and are hungry to get their work out there.

The general trouble with anthology magazines is the uneven quality and coherency. There are of course exceptions out there, but it’s been a long time since we saw the likes of Epic Illustrated, Tabooand A1. With Outré we want to deliver a thoughtful and unique product with superb quality in art and storytelling. For free.

Initially Outré will be published online two or three times a year. It will be available for free as a downloadable file, which we will promote and spread out through as many channels as possible. Each issue will feature four stories by four different creative teams, as well as two in-depth creator conversations and four stand-alone illustrations playing on the theme of the issue. Each story in Outréshould be completely self-contained and exactly eight pages in length - no exceptions. Naturally, each story remains the property of the creators involved.

With strong focus on creating a consistent and thoughtful anthology, each issue of Outré will betheme-oriented. The creators involved are presented with a theme which they can approach in any way they like. Genre, style and tone are all up to the creator(s), as long as the resulting story is about the current theme.

  • The first issue of Outré will be about responsibility.
  • The second issue’s theme is hopelessness.

At this point we are looking for creators who are willing to take a shot at one of the two themes of the first two issues; responsibility or hopelessness. Send us a brief synopsis (around 250 words) outlining the story - including the beginning, middle and end. And a paragraph explaining what you want to say about the chosen theme in the story, and how that will be explored in the story.

Once through, you will be asked to deliver a script for an eight-page story within an agreed upon timeframe. We will assist bringing the right artist to your story. But creators are welcome to recommend anyone they know, of course.

We’re also looking for artists with a unique personal style who are willing to have their work featured in Outré. And if you’re a writer-and-artist-in-one with a great idea for a story, we’ll certainly encourage you to submit.

There is no money involved, so why do it? What we offer is to be part of a unique anthology that we aim to expose to all the corners of the internet, for free. Having people you've never met read and discuss - and continue to spread your stories… we at Outré Press can't think of a greater reward for a hungry creator.

All the best and we await your submissions,
Glenn Møane & Magnus Aspli
