The Olympics kinda begin - tomorrow? With a women's soccer match (pre-opening?).

Lots of Brits here. What are the Olympics doing to your life?

Lots of other folks going to be watching on the teevee. Bet you have comments, too.

I'm starting this in Comics+ so Mark and our VIPs who do not visit our noble and spectacular Pub have an opportunity to participate.

If this is bad, why, you Mean Ol' Mods™ go ahead and move my thread! If you leave it here, I might just tell an anecdote or two about the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Maybe.

I think the Olympics might be especially inspiring to us comics folks, as this is where we will see the closest thing to super-humans in real life. (So it coversStan Lee's Superhumans and the Chief's interest in Real-Life Superheroes.)

It will definitely demonstrate to some artists the locations of human muscles. :D

But first ... Have you Londoners already had your lives totally messed up by preparations? Anybody live right next to a venue? Who's seen Patrick Stewart trotting along with the Olympic Torch?

Carry On!

I'm sorry, but unless you're the official Millarworld Poster for the O******s, you'll need to call them the Summer Games, or face a lawsuit from the IOC.

All I care about is basketball, but frankly I don't like this iteration of Team USA, so.....yeah. Next time, less bullshit, more Rondo.

I have just placed a bet on 299 of the 302 events. No one had prices available for the mens 20km and 50km walks and the womens 20km walk. two weeks off work, tesco home deliveries booked, 4 tv's moved into the living room. I hope the girlfriend does't have any plans.

I might watch the archery, if I catch it. Are they doing rugby as an exhibition sport?

No. They don't seem to do that anymore, they've been accepted into 2016 but nothing this time.

Love the Olympics. Can't wait for them to start.

Found this today, thought it interesting and somewhat relevant with London being the focus for the next month (I didn't know any of this):

I love watching sport, I'll get into most things.

I was on Youtube last night looking at some great records being broken by Usain Bolt and Michael Johnson and Jonathan Edwards. Effectively that is my 'training' programme for the event.

So far, life in London is pretty normal. There has been a little traffic confusion with new Olympic lanes being set up etc. but the real fun wont start until the games do.

Commuting to work will be an event in itself.

It must be taken into consideration though that British people take quite a bit of pleasure in finding something new to moan about so it's give and take.Posted Image

St. James Park being closed off surprised me when I was in London with pupils a month ago or so. This meant an additional march through the busy city for like half an hour instead of a stroll through the park. The 7th-graders I had with me were pretty done for after that.

Seriously fucking it up as I keep finding new levels of incompetence within the organisation I work in as loads of 'em bugger off to work on the Olympics!

Steve, you've gotten lucky, the traffic aggro has already started for me!

I don't deal with traffic much.

We'll see how the tube and overground cope...

My Dad works for England Athletics so let's be careful what we say...

He actually has nothing to do with the Olympics directly as he is the head coach mentor for England. Basically teaching the coaches how to coach most effectively.

For me the Olympics so far has meant two weeks straight work on America as it was the year 5 olympic country, oh yeah and an olympic based sports day.

I did get to,hold a torch though...

Due to the olympics Iand the new fancy Sunday trading laws I now have to work later. Gits. What the hell is the point of this but an excuse to bring it in full time.

For those who don't live here if your store/supermarket is past a certain size it can only only for 6 hours of trading (mostly 10 - 4) on a Sunday. With the olympic games this has been extended.

Is that enough moaning? ;p

The Olympics will destroy an already rubbish transport infrastructure, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? Well, unless you get caught in a 4 hour journey time ON TOP of your normal commute.

I remain highly sceptical of the whole thing, but the family does have tickets into the Olympic Park the day after the opening ceremony and tickets to go up the weird Orbit tower thingy as well. There are no sporting events on that day, but I figured it was the best option for letting a one year old walk around without getting too bored.

Everything else will be watched via the gogglebox. The female beach volleyball (on Horse Guards Parade!) may be watched in HD.
