I came up with Chris Pine. It's a hell of a role, whoever gets it. Instant fame.

Pine's already got Star Trek. You don't go from James T. Kirk to Star Lord.

Levitt could work though. Not sure on that one, but I could see it.

And one of the guys who wanted to play Black Panther might be playing Falcon:

And, for the record, I call bullshit on the reason Louis D'Esposito gave for why a Black Panther movie isn't part of Phase 2.

Spinning from the last thread I don't think Jensen Ackles is right for Star Lord (he's too angry and goofball - you need a little more Chris Pine/Harrison Ford - Ackles plays either clown or super serious dude). In case anyone gives a shit (which I know you don't) my choice is Jai Courtney (because he was exactly that character in Spartacus, is due to be the next big thing from the new Die Hard, and no-one can play charming rogue better than an Aussie - except an Irishman, and none of the current crop would be handsome enough to lead a movie).

(I also suggested Jamie Bell but that would be for a very different kind of Stalord).

Jensen fighting with Rocket would be gold though. I'd ascend into heaven if I saw that scene.

I can see Jensen on the role... He's kinda like Fillion in the sense that he can be a goof, and the next second get all dead serious, which I think is what's needed for Quill.

What reason did he give?

Wow. I think the Millarworld constitution requires that you resign your membership for not suggesting Fassbender.

What reason did he give?

In an interview with MTV, Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito was asked about a potential Black Panther movie, and this is what he had to say:

"He has a lot of the same characteristics of a Captain America: great character, good values... But it's a little more difficult, maybe, creating [a world like Wakanda]. It's always easier basing it here. For instance, 'Iron Man 3' is rooted right here in Los Angeles and New York. When you bring in other worlds, you're always faced with those difficulties."

So, let me get this straight - it's apparently not-so difficult to create the fictional worlds in Thor, or the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy (with its bizarre team of interstellar heroes), but Wakanda will be more of a challenge? I hope that's not what's holding up a Black Panther movie.

Hello:

Same here. I would say they think it may
be hard to have a film on a black character
with a black cast and market it.

I guess a Luke Cage movie should be pretty easy to make then (is John Singleton still working on that).

It'd be kinda sad if the first Marvel movie with a black star is about an ex-con. Not that Luke Cage isn't an awesome character... but can't you start with the King of the hyper-advanced civilization?

Of course, it's unlikely they'd ever say that out loud.

Exactly. If they can bring Asgard to life, Wakanda shouldn't be that difficult. And if you're more comfortable basing action in a real world city, Wakanda has an embassy in NYC.

Going by your description of Star Lord needing to be like Han and Luke, Jim, I think Aaron Paul would be pretty much perfect.

Yeah, I prefer Luke Cage as a character since I've read more of him but I see exactly where you're coming from. It's a bit of a weird move considering Marvel created a new Spider-Man with an almost entirely non-white cast.

And it's a shame they cast Idris Elba as Heimdall, he would have made a great Cage and an even better T'Challa if they'd held off hiring him.

if it's set in NYC, a Black Panther film could have plenty of white folks in it to keep America happy. As for it being a hard sell for a film with a black lead...hello 1970s. Are we forgetting Denzel? And isn't Will "Mr 4th Of July" Smith black? Not that either of them would be best to play T'Challa, but I've gotta say I'd be far more sceptical of a superhero film with a female lead doing well than I would one with a non-white lead.

Nah, he's too bulky to be the Black Panther. You need someone who looks lithe and acrobatic.

I think it'd be worse if the first Marvel movie with a black star is a commercial flop. If they think it would be easier to make a successful Luke Cage movie than a Black Panther one, then more power to them. I actually think Black Panther would be much easier to do as a supporting character in Avengers 2, then spin him off if he breaks out. As a standalone movie Black Panther would have a lot against him, as despite claims to the contrary Wakanda is tricky to pull off in a believable fashion (yes, they made Asgard, no they are not similar), and the name alone would be a commercial red flag, given the connections to the radical political group. It's better to introduce viewers to the character in a way that does not require them to buy into it, and then only IF they bite force them to pay $10 for the privilege of seeing him alone. Don't let idealism blind you to commercial realities. It's better to take small victories where you can get them than to overreach and get slapped back down. If they made the "perfect" Black Panther movie and it was another John Carter, it would be a decade or more before they gave Luke Cage a shot.

Marvel aren't choosing projects based on their popularity as a comic characters, they're choosing them based on how they think the movie will do.

Black Panther and Luke Cage are good characters but are they any more likely than Daredevil to be a hit film?

The answer they gave is still BS but it's a different sort of BS.

I kinda see why they have some trouble with Black Panther. The whole character, his name, powers and origin are a tad stereotypical...so it's a balancing act.
