Newspapers and magazines print retractions for
some misprint, error, on their part. Politicians and
even celebrities make statements taking back what
they mistakenly said...
So why not here?
How about you? What do you take back? :-)
Speak now to make any retractions, humorous
clarifications, or forever hold your peace.

Is this another thread to discuss your oh-so-many misunderstood posts Al?
No... I did include a funny face in there didn't I? I mean for all to have fun with this.
Nonetheless, you do have a point...

Fwiw, I did make some apologetic postings in the past
over some that I mistakenly hurt and even some said
that my postings were sweet.
I may have left this out, but I do take back comparing
myself to a great writer who is so well liked here.
There... I said my peace.
Now carry on with humor.

Nobody saw me do it.
You can't prove anything.
And history will portray me as a hero and patriot for my actions.

I take back nothing. All who've ever argued with me were wrong. I will, however, magnanimously accept their apologies now.
/Second.
I do kind of wish sometimes that I could jettison this identity and pick up another though, because for whatever reason some people seem to believe that whatever I say MUST be wrong, and immediately begin their counterattack without even considering that I might have a point. It's really disheartening, especially when I'm pretty much already right. I feel like if I posted in a thread that it was a sunny day out I'd get a half-dozen rebuttals, not a few of them calling me an idiot.

On a more relevant note: while debate is productive and interesting, it's important to recognise when it becomes counter-productive. While you may be right, your point is usually overshadowed by other elements, and if you can't communicate your point effectively, means all your analysing has been for moot.
It's important to recognise the high-point of the debate and not lead it to it's low ebb, where nothing is gained.

That might be a fair point to make towards the back end of a long discussion, but the auto-rebuttal often happens with the very first post I make in a thread, and just continues from there. I can't even count on my hands anymore the number of times I've posted what is literally an incontrovertible fact and yet had multiple people immediately respond in a way that implies that I was an idiot for even considering such a thing, clearly without doing any research to back up their own position on the matter.

I don't really remember enough to retract anything, but I've come to appreciate that he's one of the more stand-up guys here.

I think when I first started posting here I was a dick to Will (and one other Republican poster who is no longer here; not Archonis but someone else). In my defense it was after the 2004 election and I was feeling pretty burned and tempers were high all around. It was a pretty ugly time in the NCA forum and he was probably a bit of a dick too. This was before we hit our 30s and mellowed.

Ah, thanks i appreciate that.
I do remember the debates getting very heated but I honestly don't recall you ever being a dick.
Regardless, I respect you and your opinion even if we don't always agree. And I think we'd agree or more things than not.

honestly, I think that's the case with most humans. it's just that some/a lot of people tend to focus on the things we don't agree on, and use it as a reason to fight.I think we'd agree or more things than not.
