A very small group of us here probably watching the finals so let's give it a run out in it's own thread.
I missed the opener and will probably miss any game on at 5pm UK time. Denmark beating Holland was great and really makes for an interesting group even if the Germans efficiently managed an unconvincing win. Did anyone see Warren Ellis live tweeting the game? Great fun.
Spain v Italy later - would expect the spanulards to win that. And then the Irish return to a major tournament tonight against the polish. Poland will probably use home advantage and win that.
England will, unsurprisingly, lose against the French tomorrow. Getting out of that group will be tough.

Spain and Greece out in the first round.
Germany to win by default.

To be honest, I was surprised at Germany's win not being entirely unconvincing. I'd expected them to play far worse than they did.

Hmm, England vs France tomorrow with trip to the pub on the cards. I have Poland in the work sweepstake.

Been informed by bloke in the Cafe that it's actually Ireland v Croatia tonight, not Poland. My comments above still apply.

There was a riot. It burned to the ground. Sports fans eh? Can't take 'em anywhere.

I think Russia has a good chance of winning, they have a great bunch of players. Dzhagoyev and Arzhavin are brilliant.

I agree; I think we under-estimate the ambition and reach of the Russians at our peril.

England may do well because every time they go into a tournament the press is usually hyping them up to a be the 'golden generation' etc and then they flop.
Now everyone thinks they are going to flop anyway they'll probably do quite well just to annoy everyone.

I'm backing Germany. Even though Spain is the strongest team, I just don't like the mundane way they play.

You're not talking about football, are you.

don't worry, I'm sure some key players will pick up some injuries in training just before they play some team that's already much better than them.England may do well because every time they go into a tournament the press is usually hyping them up to a be the 'golden generation' etc and then they flop.

edit: Spain for the win!

James, that is priceless. I have not decided who I like yet. I think there might be more players on England that I hate than there are that I like. Of course that will change in 2 games

Warren Ellis should be a professional sports commentator... love his twittering on the football matches.

Ha ha thinks for pointing it out.
I think the French player with all the scars on his head has been fielded as a warning. "Score goal? He visits your wife with his toolbox."
