Saw it again today. Caught a couple of things. The waitress lady is called Beth. Dunno if that makes her likely to be any character from the Captain America comics or not. Also, sort of a big exciting one for me: When Banner and Stark are discussing the portal, and the material Loki has stolen to stabilise it, Banner mentions the "K'un L'un barrier". Finally, near the end, when Pepper and Tony are redesigning Stark Tower to be Avengers Tower for Avengers 2, there's a Quinjet hanger.

Are you sure it's not the quantum barrier...? They were talking physics, not ancient mystical cities.

Some the movie is making a shed load of cash but it's just sweetie money compared to what the damage caused at the end of the film would have cost:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/may/10/avengers-assemble-damage-new-york?newsfeed=true

Avengers Assemble damage to New York would cost $160bn, if real

The damage inflicted on Manhattan by an army of marauding extra-terrestrials and the superpowered defenders of Earth in blockbuster comic book movie Avengers Assemble would cost $160bn to repair, according to US "disaster experts".

Analysts for the Kinetic Analysis Corp, which assesses and predicts the cost of catastrophic incidents in the US, told the Hollywood Reporter that the climactic denouement to Joss Whedon's superpowered tale would cost more than 9/11 ($83bn), Hurricane Katrina ($90bn) or the Japanese tsunami ($122bn) to fix. Much of the repair bill would go on restoring Grand Central Station to its former glory, while fixing crushed tops of buildings would also add up.

I somehow missed that one of the whale-snake-ships actually "swims" right through the middle of a skyscraper in one bit!

like Bruce says. Also, I know people sometimes pronounce stuff weird, but it didn't sound like "quantum"

Analysts pointed out that claimants might be able to recoup losses by ticking the "act of God" box on their insurance forms, because both Thor and Loki, who appear as opponents in Avengers Assemble (titled simply The Avengers outside the UK) are considered gods in some cultures. "That designation would be subject to strenuous theological and legal debate," said a spokesman.

Not so puny gods. :)

According to boxofficemojo , worldwide gross is already over 1 billion.

That is crayyyyzy...still I don't think that in the end it will do as well as Avatar did worldwide.

I don't know what will ever do what Avatar did worldwide. It made so much more money than any other movie that is basically unfathomable. Maybe Avatar 2 has a chance, but even that seems a long shot. Avatar was something special. It really was the first movie that practically demanded people see in 3D. And then people kept going to see it. I've basically given up on trying to figure out the appeal that made it the uber-mega hit it was. Because, for me, outside of the technically achievement and some solid action sequences, I found it to be pretty bland.

Avatar will be beaten. No-one thought Titanic could be topped, but there it is. Avengers is hosed because eventually another summer blockbuster will arrive. I'd say the movie with the best shot is probably The Hobbit (if it's as exceptionally good as it should be).

The Hobbit has a chance of beating it, it will certainly do very well. I think it might do better than Avengers. But I think Avatar's worldwide boxoffice record will stand for a while longer.

I'm sure someday something will come along, but it took 12 years and another James Cameron movie to beat Titanic. Nothing had really even come close at that point.

I don't see the Hobbit having a chance of making basically 3 times the amount of money that any of the other LotRs movies made. That franchise has it's audience. It's a big one. Maybe it could manage $2 billion with inflation and 3D prices, but nearly $3 billion? That would shock me. It would essentially be the worldwide gross of all 3 LotR movies combined. Then again, I'm no LotR fan, so my bias my be showing through a bit.

I loved the LOTR movies, but I'm finding it pretty hard to work up any excitement about The Hobbit. The novelty has well and truly worn off.

New box office records will always be set, though, purely because ticket prices rise.
