If you gave me $200m and asked me which superhero I'd make a good film about he would be last on my list of those that have been on screen so far.

OK I thought this would be fun. It's also something that came up in chat room recently....so, if you had 200 million, and you could do any sort of superhero movie, with existing characters or characters you made up, what would you do? You can get any actor, any director..or direct it yourself and save money, of course.

It can also be a reboot, or a movie with a character that hasn't had a movie yet.

I'd want a Promethea movie...directed by Aronofsky, with a script by me. :D Alan Moore will hate it, but that doesnt matter. :)

I'd like a Fantastic Four movie that looks like it was designed by Jack Kirby. Lots of fantastic machines, a trip into the Negative Zone, a few Inhumans maybe, and plenty of Kirby crackling energy effects.

I'll write and direct it myself, because I'm awesome.

'Sandman' and take it seriously.

'Death' and take it seriously.

'JLA' and not take it seriously at all. :)

First choice I'd do a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but I think Marvel have that covered already.

I'd like to do a Death's Head movie (based on the first robot) as I think the character would really work on screen. And I think Dragons Claws would make for a great action flick (a Jason Statham kind of thing), but I don't know if it'd make enough to cover the production costs.

Even though I'm a big fan of the JLI, I don't think they'd work as a movie. Too many comparisons to Avengers, and they just wouldn't hold up as well. It's come off as Animal House with capes, and that sounds like a Box Office Bomb.

Oh, and maybe Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets. I think you'd have a really global movie with that cast. But it could be nostalgia playing in my head.

I don't know if there's that many superhero movie ideas that could gross over $400 mil.

Sounds great. I'd go and see it if only to find out how the Kirby crazyness transfers to the big screen.

Agreed, we really need Sandman movies.

Don't know how the JLA would work out...would you do full out comedy??

Matt Wagner's MAGE

Written by Drew Goddard (alt. Terry Gilliam)

Directed by Kevin Smith (alt. Terry Gilliam)

Kevin Matchstick - Though I like Gerard Butler, John Cusack and Jeremy Piven, I just can't see the main character being that far out of his 20's - Liam Hemsworth would be my pick. If it just has to be a movie star, I don't know. Not Ashton Kuchtner, Michael Cera, Shia The Beef, Ryan Gosling or Jesse Eisenberg. A younger Ben Affleck would've been nice - around the age he did Daredevil. Josh Hartnett, maybe? In a pinch, Mark Walhberg who's always a capable back-up.

Mirth - Fran Kranz

Edsel - Laurenn London (a relative unknown, but I liked her in that Tyler Perry movie)

Sean - Steve Zahn

The Umbra Sprite - Ralph Feinnes, but he'd need to be more Red Dragon than Voldomort. Otherwise, George Clooney in his first intentionally evil role. Posted Image

The rest of the monsters are not that important, but I'd cast a "surprise" star like Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck or Sam Worthington (or even Gerard Butler) as Cromm Cruich the Dragon for his "human" scenes.

And, really, this would only cost $75 mil tops unless the studio felt the need to pump up the effects beyond all reason.

I'd love to see a Battle of the Planets movie...I remember reading some comics of them translated to Dutch when I was a young kid kid. I don't know anything about the story anymore but it made a huge impression on my young imagination.

I'm not just saying this as a Millar fan.

Everyone knows who Superman is, almost everyone likes Nolan's Batman and everyone is bored of seeing Supes' origin story. This could be the answer to all those things. It doesn't hurt that Kick-Ass was well received and having 'From the creator of Kick-Ass' on the post would only promote the tongue in cheek nature of it. Kick-Ass played in people's expectations of superhero films, this could play of the preconceptions around Superman. It's both a celebration and a piss-take of Superman; "But to my surprise, she didn't. Not even for a scond." And i think everyone can appreciate the ending.
It takes Batman a turns him up to 11, flips the villain and the hero around, has the alternate history aspect of Inglourious Basterds, it might also flip the public's perception of Green Lantern, Wonder Woman could be DC's Thor and it even keeps the crazy aspects of Superman intact. I would love the scene with Superman being put in a glowing green safe with absolutely no shame or no need to make it 'real, embrace the ridiculousness of the ring like Luther and Jordan do.

Not entirely sure who would direct it, but Tarantino comes to mind since I already mention Basterds and I think he'd enjoy Miller's dialogue. If not, Matthew Vaughn. John Hamm or Michael Fassbender should be Superman. Hell, Fassbender could pull off Superman, Batman or Green Lantern. He's great with accents so he'd fit any of them. Luther? No idea, but he'd need a lot of charisma to carry the film whereas Superman needs presence (which Hamm and Fassbender have in spades).

My hope is that Marvel can buy back the rights to Fantastic Four as it's clear Fox have no idea what they're doing. The question is do they cover the origin again or skip by it, and do they go for older Reed or a teenage Reed like the ultimate universe (I like the teenage Reed better myself).

I missed one from my list: Atomic Robo. I think the character could be the next Doctor Who, and that any movie starring him will make a fountain of cash. Merchandise, TV shows - he's a potential huge money maker. And he'd be a champion of science that kids would love to hear from, which the scientific world really needs.

Awesome. I don't think Warner Bros will ever go for it...but damn, it would be nice to see that.

I'd love to see a succesful Superman reboot. Not sure about Snyder, but really I'm not sure anyone can do it justice.

This is my main question with the next Spider-Man film. We can see Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and it's pivotal to the original premise he dies but we saw it quite recently and I think it's the hardest thing the reboot would have to get around.

I'd love it if those were finally made into movies, but it wouldn't really be superhero movies....

It'd be interesting to see a proper Miracleman movie, the kind that would never get made. Not necessarily an exact Miracleman adaptation, but that's the superhero movie I would make - the emergence of the superhero, the great, cataclysmic battles, and then him remaking the world in his image.

On the other hand, it has been 10 years since that first Spider-Man movie. So you have a big generation of teenagers who were somewhere between 3 and 9 when that came out and probably didn't see that movie. Not that I really disagree with you. Just saying that 10 years is kind of a long time. I certainly wish DC could go 10 years without rehashing Superman's origin, for example.

Red Son would be very cool - is there a WB animated version?

Timur Bekmambetov (WANTED, DAYWATCH, ABE LINCOLN: VAMPIRE DETECTIVE) would be the obvious choice for director, though, and I'd actually like to see an actor who wasn't American (or from an English speaking country) play the character. Remember, his first language would be Russian, even though he could conceivably speak any language fluently.

Fassbender would be great, though - isn't he at least a quarter German?

Alexander Skarsgaard, too, maybe?

I think it should be funnier than 'Avengers' yes. There need to be real stakes, lives on the line, end of the world even, but good comedy has that sometimes.

'Green Lantern' is getting a lot of discussion this board and I have to admit one of the characters I most want to see is Guy Gardner.

Maybe give it to the dude who played Moe in the recent 3 Stooges. He's actually kind of a good-looking guy and certainly the same "type" as the comic book character.

Justice League of America probably should be a bit more 'serious' than the Giffen Demattias series from the 80's, but it definitely needs to be much brighter than Dark Knight and all of the characters would need equal status for the ensemble to work.

They need their moments to justify their inclusion in the team, but you can have a Danny Ocean to lead the eleven.

And I really would be happy for it to be a spectacular comedy.

Can't remember if Skarsgaard was quarter German or if he just grew up here, but either way he's, fluent.

Skarsgaard would be an interesting choice, too.

Would you include all the big guns in the comedy League? Supes, Bats, Wonder Woman?

I am not sure Nolanverse Batman could ever be turned into a serious Justice League movie like Iron Man eventually led to Avengers, but dammit it would still be awesome if they did that. I guess that would depend on how Snyder's Superman turned out, wether it could be seen to play out in the same continuity. Maybe if the third Batman movie introduced some supernatural aspects - like a Lazarus pit?? And I'm sure if they did that serious JLA movie, they would be happy to simply disregard that GL movie...

I think Morrison's JLA could be turned into a good movie...with a billion dollar budget. Posted Image Or they could take the general ideas that were used in Ellis's Authority, for a JLA trilogy. Crazy terrorist plot, evil alternate Earth, evil God returning to Earth to turn it into a latrine.

What would be the most challenging superheroes to put on screen?

Obviously, THE PUNISHER has not yet found its hook. It is a kind of conflict between wanting to make him understandable as a person and at the same time wanting him to be Jason from Friday the 13th. What's the balance between LEON and MANIAC COP?

SPAWN is one that I'd love to see given a kind of Tim Burton's BATMAN treatment mixed with Proyas' THE CROW. Still, that was sort of what the original film was going for an it ended up like a big-budget Troma Films wanna-be. There are a few movies like that from that period that deserve to be remade better. More than a few seem to have John Leguizamo in the cast, as I recall. Posted Image

I'd give Spawn to Peter Jackson and/or Guillermo Del Toro to produce. Ask Neil Gaiman to write the screenplay (HAH! Like that would ever, ever happen!), and give it to someone like Neil Blomkamp to direct.

Or, again, produced by Tim Burton, directed by Timur Bekmambetov... if AHVH works out.

Would you include all the big guns in the comedy League? Supes, Bats, Wonder Woman?

Wonder Woman, yes, but I'd let Green Arrow/Black Canary be the "Batman/Catwoman" of the group and give Superman's role to Captain Marvel (or Captain Thunder if "Marvel" is a problem).

If you need Superman, that is. It would be kinda cool if Wonder Woman was the strongest, fastest flying team member.
