I wont see it in 3D, but it looks like I will see it.

On that we're agreed. I don't ever choose 3D, muddy visuals and unimpressive effects, I thoroughly enjoyed The Avengers in 2D.

The images for Dredd have been so dark I can't see how 3D could work for that film anyway.

I'm sensing the same for Amazing Spider-Man. Almost every shot seems to be at night.

I saw the trailer for Amazing Spider-man in 3D before Avengers. It looked fine - better than Avengers did in fact.

I don't think the light-loss thing is as big an issue as people make out. The darker scenes in Avengers, like the forest fight, looked just as dim in 2D as they did in 3D.

I found Thor's night scenes almost unwatchable and that was the last time I went to see anything in 3D.

EDIT: My Bloody Valentine was much better but it was also shot in 3D rather than converted.

Which is probably a fair point. Truth is I missed Avatar because my local cinema hadn't been upgraded with a 3D projector and the one that had in Penang was booked out solidly until I couldn't be arsed.

With that caveat I have seen nothing that endeared me to the format, maybe Tron a bit in places.

I missed Tron 2 in the cinema - it's the only film I've watched on DVD at home and thought "I wish I'd seem that in 3D". Can't think of any other films I've had similar thoughts about.

Depending on reviews, Prometheus may be the first movie I pay to see in 3D (I saw Alice in Wonderland too, but it was free).

I thought Tron Legacy was the most pointless of all the shot-in-3D movies. There were very few times when I even noticed it was in 3D because the world was so artificial. It seemed to have even less depth than Toy Story 3.

3D is very artificial so I thought it worked in parts for the computer game scenes in Tron 2. Toy Story 3 gained nothing outside the first scene. It's the same issue as 30 years ago, poke the spear in your face and it has some effect, if not who cares?

Yep.

That sums it up.

It's a random one, but I thought the 3D in Robert Zemeckis' Christmas Carol was really well done. I thought it enhanced the experience quite a bit.

And to be honest, I had a lot of fun with the 3D in the latest Harold & Kumar flick, just because they were clearly having a lot of fun with it themselves.

Generally speaking I think I've seen my last 3D film, though. If there's a 2D option I'll never take 3D.

I have Tron Legacy, a 3D rig and the house to myself tomorrow, if you want to correct that. Drop me a PM.

I quite liked the Beowulf 3D, but it was very much of the theme park-style, reach-out-and-poke-the-audience variety.

The Dragon was still great, though.

I'd like to see Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D. That one's just rammed with things being poked out of the screen at you.

I thought Coraline had good 3D. Gave me an awful headache though.

Seconded. The garden scene was amazing, felt like the cinema stretched on for 200m or so. Whenever I think of good 3D, that's what springs to mind, far more than Avatar.

Stop-motion seems much more suited to 3D, due to either having a fixed camera, or if it's moving, it's on a very orchestrated path. It's much more headache-inducing seeing a flurry of action in a live-action film, the 3D's totally lost.
