With only a week and a half to go until the Avengers movie is upon us, I've decided to try and squeeze in a Marvel movie marathon over the next 10 days or so, comprising all five of the Marvel Studios pictures in order of release.

I'm planning on kicking things off with Iron Man tonight, before working through the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and finally Captain America, hopefully getting them all done before I go and see all of the Avengers come together on the 27th.

I've never watched them all in such close proximity to one another, and I thought it'd be a good way of judging just how cohesive the Marvel movie universe has been so far, as well as jogging my memory with anything that might be important to have fresh in my mind for the Avengers.

Anyone fancy joining me? If so, I thought we could use this as a place to discuss.

I'm sure there's a few cinemas doing the same thing - screening the films over a few nights (I think I may have seen somewhere doing all films back to back).

It'd be pretty cool to go and see them at the cinema again. But even as a fan, I don't think I could take them all in a row!

I was thinking of watching some of the best Whedon stuff, but I didn't realise the film was so close. Maybe the Marvel movies would be better, running time considered. Of course, I've watched Thor 3 times in the last few months. Not sure I can take it again. It's good and all, REALLY good, even, but still.

I saw Cap again a couple of weeks ago and rewatched Thor last night. I might try and watch Incredible Hulk and Iron Man before Avengers, but I'm not too desperate to see IM2 again at the moment.

Watching Thor at home rather than the cinema was interesting. The lack of MASSIVE bass on Idris Elba's voice was disappointing.

Ensure you remember the after-credits sequences Dave! Those tend to link the films up.

Well, I just finished Iron Man and it's as much fun as I remember. RDJ's performance and Favreau's sense of fun make it, obviously, but something else struck me whilst watching the film: it's that with a lot of the Marvel characters (especially the ones that Marvel Studios have retained the rights to), the origin story is often the most interesting story to be told with the character.

This means that you don't get the same problem that you get with certain superhero movies, where it feels like the origin story is something to be got out of the way before the real story can start. And it means that something like Iron Man can afford to take a lot of time building up its lead character and telling his story without worrying about how much time there is to fit the supervillain plot in - because it's Tony Stark's journey that's the real story here, and the threat of Stane is rightly relegated to a secondary consideration (albeit one that's integrated well with Tony's story).

Even Batman Begins - which was great - felt like a mix of half-origin-story, half-supervillain-plot, in a way which made it feel like a slight compromise. Here (and, from what I remember, in Thor and Captain America), it feels like they've gone to great lengths to make capturing the essence of the character the main goal of the film, with the plot fitting in around that, rather than the other way around.

If I have any criticism of Iron Man, it's that the final fight is a bit clunky and predictable compared to the verve and energy of the rest of the movie - and like many of the Marvel Studios productions, it falls into the trap of having the lead hero fight an 'evil' version of himself as the climax - but I think everything else is handled so well that you can forgive these more conventional elements.

Ensure you remember the after-credits sequences Dave! Those tend to link the films up.

Oh yes, I hadn't forgotten. :)

It's interesting to rewatch Nick Fury's first appearance at the very end of Iron Man and remember just how excited people were at the time about the possibilities for the Marvel movie universe that had been opened up.

Even then, though, I don't know if people would have dared to hope that it would all fall together so well, with Thor and Cap also being successful enough to justify a full-blown Avengers movie so soon. It wasn't even as though anyone expected Iron Man to be the big hit that it was. Marvel movies really have come a long way in four short years.

Incredible Hulk up next, anyway. I'll try and give it a watch within the next couple of days. I remember enjoying bits of it, but finding it a little underwhelming overall - but I haven't watched it since I saw it at the cinema, so we'll see if my opinion has changed in the interim.

They are having a Marvel Movie marathon here. It is all the character movies ending with the Avengers at Midnight for only $40, that is a steal. Since 3 of the films I believe are in 3D.

Here is the link to what I'm talking about: http://www.amctheatr...marvel-marathon

That's pretty cool, Tony, but no way I could handle watching all of them in one sitting like that.

Agreed. Especially not in 3D.

I may watch that this evening. What I'm most interested in seeing is how well the super-soldier stuff ties in with what we saw in Cap.

I love the Incredible Hulk movie. I think it is the only comicbook film that is better then the comicbook. And Ed Norton in it is perfect is it

Oddly the only Marvel film I've rewatched is 'Iron Man'. I say oddly because I've liked all the films, but the rest just haven't been on my radar for a repeat viewing.

I think Thor stands up best to repeat viewings. Seen it 3 or 4 times already.

Yeah, me too. That's part of the reason I'm doing this rewatch - to see how well the seeds that were planted in those early movies tie in with the direction they decided to take later on.

Judging by what I've heard from people who have seen it (which seems to be the world and his wife at this point - have Marvel been putting on thousands of advance fan screenings, or what?), I think you might be right.
