I only favor the death penalty for crimes that take someone's life, but I'd be glad to make an exception in this case. What rehabilitation is there for people who think gang-raping an 11-year-old is ok?

I remember when news of this case first broke last year. The girl's mother had to deal with a heap of scorn from the community who kept essentially accusing her child of "asking for it" for hanging out with older men.

there was a similar case here in canada a year or so ago, and the reactions of the victim's peers were revolting. a couple news agencies interviewed some of the students and they said things like she was asking for it, or she was probably lying to get attention. the worst part is, it was the females just as much as the males that were saying these things.

i recall being particularly angry that those people who took pictures of the attack and spread them over facebook, were never charged, and that the guys are all sticking up for one another.

Yeah I vote for deleting this thread too. I'm never a fan of the threads where some unspeakable crime is described and then everyone talks about what horrible things should happen to the perpetrators. The world can be a horrible place and humans can be a horrible species, we all know that.

Well, Stephanie's link was originally in a thread called News of the Weird, Whimsical and Wonderful; I guess someone decided that it didn't "fit" there.

Is this a case of Twitter Chinese whispers, or is there really a man with a bomb holding hostages in Tottenham Court Road?

Is this a case of Twitter Chinese whispers, or is there really a man with a bomb holding hostages in Tottenham Court Road?

Seems true. Details from Huff Post journalist here: https://twitter.com/#!/hullstephen

Tottenham Court Road Offices Evacuated Over 'Bomb Threat'

The Huffington Post UK building has been evacuated after a man reportedly wearing a gas cannister threatened to blow himself up in the adjoining building.

According to reports from the scene, Tottenham Court Road has been cordoned off and there is a hostage situation.

People near the scene have reported shots being fired and that computers and equipment has been thrown out of the windows of the office block.

Police have yet to comment on the bomb threat report.

Bomb threats are a dime a dozen in London. In the late 90s when I was with the bank we'd get at least one a week. We weren't allowed to divulge to customers but it would go up on boards in the call centre that so and so branch had an emergency closure.

We'll just have to wait and see if this is genuine or the Huff guys panicking, although the hostage claim seems to suggest it is more serious.

BBC link to the story...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17869815

London's Tottenham Court Road has been sealed off and a building evacuated after witnesses reported a man inside had threatened to blow himself up.
Police were called just before noon after computer equipment and office furniture was thrown from the fifth floor of an office building.
Witnesses claimed a man "had a bomb and was threatening to blow himself up".
An internal email from Camden Council seen by the BBC described the incident as "a hostage situation".
"Hostages have been ordered to throw computers from the window by the suspect," it said.
Scotland Yard said a 300m cordon had been put in place and a negotiator was on scene.
The force said: "It is unclear if there are other people in the building."

Hey, it's Texas, with any luck the maximum penalty would be castration via truck pull.

I only favor the death penalty for crimes that take someone's life, but I'd be glad to make an exception in this case. What rehabilitation is there for people who think gang-raping an 11-year-old is ok?

The death penalty is too good for people like this. Let them spend life without parole in a maximum security prison, general population.
