On the stand he said he feared Martin had a gun. Apparently that wasn't a smart thing to say.

On the other hand the prosecution admitted that they don't know what actually happened or who started the fight, so the whole thing remains a mess.

And the case takes an interesting turn:

Shellie Zimmerman, wife of Trayvon Martin killer, arrested on perjury charge

Shellie Zimmerman, wife of George Zimmerman, who killed Trayvon Martin, was arrested Tuesday on one count of perjury, the Seminole County, Fla., Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies arrested Shellie Zimmerman, 25, about 3:30 p.m. ET, after they were advised by the office of State Attorney Angela Corey that a warrant had been issued.

She was booked into John E. Polk Correctional Facility and released on $1,000 bond, officials said.

George Zimmerman, 28, was charged with second-degree murder in the Feb. 26 shooting of Martin.

His $150,000 bond was revoked after allegations that during an April 20 bail hearing he and Shellie Zimmeran misled the court about their finances, neglecting to disclose they had raised at least $135,000 in a PayPal account.

The order issued Tuesday by Assistant State Attorney John Guy charged Shellie Zimmerman with knowingly making false statements during the April hearing.

I just have to ask how can a professional journalist get away with such plainly horrible writing?

Oh, it's US News. No wonder.

This turn of events, being caught lying about his bail, is a bigger deal than most people think.

Since this case largely turns on whether the jury believes Zimmerman or not, and Zimmerman (and wife) has been caught actively lying to the court, with recorded evidence that they were lying to the court........ no prosecuting lawyer worth his weight in salt, won't pound that fact into the jury, and reach the conclusion that not a single word out of Zimmerman's mouth is trustworthy.

Chewy...................................................................take out his testimony, what have you got? two guys got into a skirmish that directly ended up with one person dead. Sounds like manslaughter to me.

As someone who I imagine is following this a little closer than most, what exactly was their lie? Did they just not say that they made all that money, and that's considered a lie, or did they actually say that they were poor, when in fact they knowingly had all this money lying around?

At the hearing, Shellie Zimmerman testified that the couple, who married in 2007, had limited funds for bail because she was a full-time student and her husband wasn’t working. Prosecutors say they actually had then already raised $135,000 in donations from a website George Zimmerman created. They suggested more had been raised since then.

Records show that in the days before the bond hearing, Shellie Zimmerman transferred $74,000 in eight smaller amounts ranging from $7,500 to $9,990, from her husband’s credit union account to hers, according to an arrest affidavit. It also shows that $47,000 was transferred from George Zimmerman’s account to his sister’s in the days before the bond hearing.

Four days after he was released on bond, Shellie Zimmerman transferred more than $85,500 from her account into her husband’s account, the affidavit said. The affidavit also said jail call records show that George Zimmerman instructed her to “pay off all the bills,” including an American Express and Sam’s Club card.
A state attorney investigator met with credit union officials and learned she had control of transfers to and from her husband’s account.

Jeffrey Neiman, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice, said cash transactions in excess of $10,000 usually trigger a reporting requirement by the bank to multiple government agencies — including the IRS.

So yeah. . . that would do it.
