I'm watching Clockwork (or is it Clockwise? I can never remember) a largely over-looked 80s comedy with John Cleese. Seen it before and liked it, so I'm hoping it holds up.
It's Clockwise, I remember it being okay but not a classic.

Yeah, it's Clockwise. Not quote up to Fawlty or his Pythons work, bit I always liked it.

Watched the Gunther van Hagens documentary on his crucifixion artwork made using his plastination dissection technique this evening; interesting themes of art and science, and on his own reflections on mortality as he faces likely death in the near future.

It irritated me at first because it's one of those films where the protagonist does an indeterminate job where he can get away with watching porn all day and still earn enough money to afford a swanky minimalist apartment overlooking the city, where he only listens to music on vinyl - because CDs are so uncool. But once you get past that, it's strangely compelling, despite the fact that it's hard to sympathise with Fassbender and his middle-class woes.
It's brilliantly acted of course, and really nicely directed apart from a couple of self-indulgent moments. And there are a couple of sex scenes where you realise the line between acting and doing porn must be a fine one indeed..!

I don't know, it's not terrible. I like the 'special edition' sock puppet thing. And I was laughing uncontrollably at the 'dig your own graves, wear his face as a mask' bit. I think the relative lack of quality in the source material didn't help matters though.Watched the Family Guy Jedi mick-take on BBC3, complete arse - good job I didn't buy the DVD when it came out a year or so back.

Machete Maidens Unleashed can be summed up in two sentences: A lot of low budget American films were made in the Philippines. They were all terrible.
American Grindhouse was a bit more interesting and informative, talking about Grindhouse's early roots.

On my way to the US, I watched Anatomy of a Murder (Brilliant), Sunset Boulevard (Pretty good) and The Wild One (Utterly abysmal, don't bother). On the way back, Harold & Maude, Top Secret and Young Frankenstein (all hilarious).
In-flight movies are getting a lot better.

i've watched a weird hodgepodge of movies over the last several days, including True Grit, That Thing You Do, No Country For Old Men, and A Room With a View.
That's not a bad hodgepodge.

Thought i'd just try out the first episode the other day and ended up watching four in a row. It's brilliant.

It's a much better movie than I remembered. I think I was grumpy about it back in the day because it wasn't an intellectual courtroom drama or something like that (which an actual movie of I, Robot should be). But it's a well made action film with a reasonably intelligent plot. Plus Will Smith being Will Smith is always watchable.
We did note that it has an awful lot of cussing for a "12" certificate. That's the kind of thing you don't notice until you're actually watching it with a 12-year-old.
