I was! It's the 21st century. 75% of the English language has sexual connotations now.

You're just saying that to suck up to Bruce, you pussy.

Hello:

Say, anyone here ever went to dance clubs,
singles bars, night clubs etc.?

I always found those kind of places to be a little
too noisy and crowded. I couldn't hear the person
next to me and vice versa.

never been to a singles bar, but i think most people have been to regular bars, especially in their youth. not really my scene, i hate the music they play, and it seems like people only go there to pick up.

I've been to brothels. Does that fall into the category you describe?

I don't even think they have bars that discriminate against you depending on your relationship status here. At least, not overtly, like the name "singles bar" suggests. I do go to bars. I have occasionally been to a couple of night clubs. These places sell alcohol, and sometimes have physically attractive people in them. Loud music makes it difficult for me to ever get talking with people, not that I tend to chat girls up in bars much. I have, once or twice been hit on by girls, but they mostly seem a bit mental. I've got to say, that if I'm out, and drunk and horny, and I don't want to fuck you because I think you're mental, you should be very worried.

the man did say "etc" so I think it does.

I was never much of a clubber in my single days. Don't like dancing, don't drink much, and haven't smoked since I was 18. So I would usually pass on invites to go drinking and stayed home wasting time online (the internet was very new in my country during my college years). Ended up meeting my wife through a Transformers-collecting friend, so score one for geek love :p

Clubs are kinda crap, I prefer having a drink and a good old banter in a pub with decent music over not getting a seat and having pish music blare over everyone I'm talking to.

I usually go to read a book with a nice pint or a cocktail. Or maybe watch a basketball game on the TV.

They are sometimes called "meat markets" as most
go there to pick someone up for a one night stand.

Starbucks in NYC are getting to be places to socialize.
This girl in a coffee shop was saying how she now avoids
Starbucks because she goes there to read and this guy
is always trying to hit on her to pick her up. So she is trying
to find a new spot to read quietly.

I don't know about striking up conversations with perfect strangers...
Usually you say a joke to break the ice, but it is a gamble because if
it isn't that funny, then it is very awkward.

If the eye contact is there, fine, but if not and they are clearly not
interested in talking to you, you feel bad, especially if you are the
type to take rejection so personally.

I've always liked going to clubs, and I still do. Clubs with proper music mind you. Anyway, I like them because I like dancing and stuff. I never go and just talk to strangers.

Then go to clubs that play better music.

Exactly. I was a clubber in my youth, and it was always something you did at the end of the night, after a few drinks had been consumed. By that time there was little place for chat unless it was laughing at someone making a fool of themselves on the dance-floor.

Yes I'm in the same camp as Christian and Steve. Go to a club where you enjoy the music and have fun dancing. What is wrong with the youth of today?!

Come to think of it I have pulled twice in club but that's probably down to my fancy dance moves.

Put me in the club hating category. Overly loud music, I don't dance and I don't drink. They're crushingly tedious.

Yeah, a couple of drinks and then dance your arse off - great fun if you pick the right place to go.

I agree with Christian, Steve and Gar.

Though I've found I can't go cubbing two nights in a row like I used to be able to :(
