Hello:

In the miscast thread, there were some postings about
rewriting films, recasting some charaters and so on. Imho,
it was beyond the scope of the thread, but it was a good
idea nonetheless.

So... here goes:

The Star Wars prequels would have been better if they
took out the jumbled politics of federation trade, ridiculously
long pod races, and Jar Jar Binks. I agree with Johnny Henning
in making Anakin the same age as Obi Wan and have the first
two films of them Jedi swashbuckling together. Then Anakin sees
things differently like Magneto differs from Xavier, gets seduced
by the Dark Side, gets involved with Padme, etc. Recast Anakin
with a Ryan Phillipe at the time instead of Hayden and maybe
you got something there...

DD would have been better if they did not cram Elektra, Kingpin,
Bullseye along with the DD origin. It tried to do too much. Take
a Frank Miller story and just go with it.

Godfather 3: Take out the Vatican storyline and Sofia Coppola
play up the mob intrigue, and go with Sonny's illegitimate son
story and Michael.

Superman Returns: It is a mess.Posted Image

Any thoughts or other films, be my guest.

the first harry potter movie would of been a classic if terry gilliam had directed.

transformers movie would have been great if they had set them in the 80s (think about it, it would like amazing) instead we get michael bay blowing stuff up for 2 hours, plus , megan fox- shes hot but shes no actress.

Sucker Punch would have been a better movie if it had embraced it's trashy nature and actually tried to be a fun movie instead of being so serious (and boring). So basically it needed a completely different script, only keeping the basic elements of "hot girls kicking ass in outlandish, dreamlike situations".

The 'Transformers; films would've been better if they had plots. That's it. Anything else would be changing the curtains in a burning building.

I'm watching 'The Darkest Hour', and I have a feeling I'm going to end up with a long list of CBB's for it, but I'll start with; characters who have some more character.

Of course it's a high concept, action driven movie but there's no real soul to these people. They're the epitome of two-dimensional, cardboard cutouts in a shallow film.

They were never actually refered to as Ewoks in Jedi.

The Ewok scenes would have to be totally rewritten* and the tone would change dramatically. It's already set up from the first film that Wookiees are a bit handy. Yeah, the Ewoks are a bit cutesy on the surface, but I enjoy a perverse pleasure out of knowing that they killed and ate all those Stormtroopers.

edit: when I say "totally rewritten" I mean, sure the dialogue and actual events of the scenes, but the important parts would need to change too! The music that's in there now works perfectly with the furry little buggers.

I like the idea of setting the Fantastic Four movie in the sixties rather than the present day. Shame they didn't go with that.

Also, end A.I. at the bottom of the sea with the blue fairy.

Indeed. I was ready to walk out of the theatre when it faded to black at that scene thinking it was a pretty damn good movie. But then it went on for another 20 minutes and I was baffled and bored.

I feel the same way about the end of 'LA Confidential'.

Yes, people have told me the book ends similarly, I really don't care.

The movie's story ends when the police cars arrive at housing development. Everything after that is like chopping away at the trunk of a tree after you've built a house in its branches.

I'd have liked them to set the Transformers movie in the 80s. First one, anyway.

edit: by which I mean the first partially live-action one, not the first one which was made in the 80s but set 7 years ago

Hello:

The 3rd Xmen movie: don't kill off the ones they killed off.
Leave some story and material to build on but as it is, they
wrote themselves into a corner.

I think X3 would have been better if FOX has been willing to wait for Singer to do it. Barring that, it's a movie that just tried to cram way too much into one movie. Do either the cure storyline or the Phoenix story. Don't do them both at the same time. In fact, doing the cure storyline while waiting for Singer to come back for the Phoenix story would have made a lot of sense. But instead we got half-asses versions of both stories while also trying to introduce a few more new characters with Kitty, Beast, and Angel. Just seemed like a mess from a writing standpoint. Plus, way too much Halle Berry.

Oh I'm already well acquainted with the How It Should Have Ended videos. Those guys are great!

"Don't make fun of the helmet, this helmet is fabulous."

The THOR one's awesome too. Actually, all their videos are. And the I love the Batman/Superman post-video coffee shop scenes! They're fantastic, it's great they have them after every superhero film now.

Hello:

As for Green Lantern, some things were OK,
but an overall rewrite was in order: rewrite Parallax
the fear monster, get rid of that guy who got infected
and turned into some ogre, and so on.

Paralax should have been no where near that movie, as far as I'm concerned. And Hal should have been written as someone with, oh I don't know, backbone. Charsima. Any kind of confidence at all. I don't remember all that much from the movie, though, just very forgettable stuff.
