I'm sure it is difficult. I've had pets, and losing them is hard, but had I cared for a food animal that I got to know, part of me thinks it would only be respectful to be the one to eat it.

It is a pretty intense moment when you literally hold your furry friend’s heart in your hands after you watched his eyes break and helped to slice him open. The smell of blood and guts is both intoxicating and nauseating. I tried to rationalize it as a shamanistic bond of sorts. A merger if you will, both spiritually and physically. Later I realized I don’t need to kill and eat my pals in order to enjoy a good meal.

Serious question: Do vegans breastfeed their children?

they breastfeed their babies, because store-bought formula contains animal products.

Ahem. As MW’s token vegan I must say… I agree. Some of my fellow vegans have a tendency to proselytize in a rather aggressive manner. While I do respect their zeal I think their methods are questionable and counterproductive. I mean I’ve been vegan for years now and I still have my old leather jacket from way back when. And I still wear it come wintertime. According to several fellow vegans I’m a devil and a hypocrite for not giving the jacket a proper burial. I shit you not.

oh i know, i have a pair of leather pumps and suede Vans, and as i bought both of these years before i became vegan, it made no sense to throw them out. but ya, i too was see as a devil and hypocrite.

it was really bizarre, because when i was in the vegan and even vegetarian stage, all of the vegans were mean to me and unsupportive, and the only people that actually supported me were meat-eaters!

I ate some fois gras the other day, it was lovely. I'm off to hell I suppose.

there's some things i still won't eat. fois gras is one of them, veal and lamb are the others.

Oh yes, I've had foie gras in Hungary...it's delectable. There's some controversy wether it's really so bad for the birds as some people say though, so maybe you can avoid the hellfire.

i doubt it. it's pretty vile how they treat and feed the birds.

Hello:

Strange... I expected this thread to get silly with
postings of bacon products and stuff, but instead
it got serious.

MW never ceases to amaze me.

I don't even like most foods, but I love bacon. That's how great bacon is. Other pig products I'm less keen on. Ham is okay from time to time, but I can't stand pork. I'm an odd duck.

I love bacon. I have come to prefer sausage over bacon, over the years. I came to love bratwurst when I was in grad school. I can't eat much of either food anymore for health reasons. :(

My Chinese food of choice is pork fried rice.

I love pork and venison sausage. (Wilbur AND Bambi!)

I am primarily a carnivore: Beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, bison. I've even had rattlesnake, shark, jellyfish and goat.

According to Clive Barker (or was it John Milton? William Blake? Adam Warlock? Dr. Strange?) humans are somewhere between angel and beast so breastfeeding is safe…!

So, does that mean Clive Barker vegans are ok with cannibalism then?
