I just saw on Twitter that its the anniversary of Dudley Moore's death.
He was one half of the best comedy duo to ever walk the earth!
He was born in my home town of Dagenham.

So who is famous from your town?

I live a couple of miles from Brian Blessed, but I grew up in Woking, home of Peter Davison. Also HG Wells lived there for a time, as evidenced by the statue of the Martian fighting machine in the town centre.

There are tons of famous New Yorkers, but I will name the one who live in the same housing complex I grew up in: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He also went to the same grade school that I did.

The actual place I live is so small that I don't think anybody famous came from there. Though Lewis Carroll spent a lot of time here.

Bryan Talbot lives about four miles from me, though oddly I've never once bumped into him at the shops.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did not. Lew Alcindor did.

Cillian Murphy is the only one I know people would have heard of. We went to the same primary school, though I think he left the year I started.

Well, Tewkesbury is the birthplace of newsreader Anna Ford, but I think she moved away almost instantly. Beyond that there's just a 19th century novellist whose name escapes me. Oh and Eric Morecombe died on stage here.

I consider Cheltenham to be something of a second home and that town produced erm Kate Thornton. :\

EDIT: I consulted Wikipedia. It's John Moore, the novelist. Also, the band [spunge] are local, but I doubt anyone's heard of them. They've always been a bit of joke locally, as far as I'm aware.
And the Antarctic explorer Captain Scott left one of his sledges at my old school (well, the grammar school that preceded it).

I live in Alphen aan den Rijn, it's a somewhat boring place but not that bad.The most famous Dutch rap artist is from this city and he was a classmate in high school, very nice guy. And one of the best Dutch poets, J.C. Bloem, was born here in the 19th century. And a few members of the "gothic metal" band Within Temptation...not my cup of hemlock.

Also two of the country's most infamous murderers lived here.

Paul Weller's from Woking too.

I grew up in Beckenham, in the London Borough of Bromley. Famous people who were born or grew up there include David Bowie, David Jones, HG Wells (born), Enid Blyton, Richmal Crompton, Pixie Lott, Peter Frampton, Siouxie Sioux, Steve Severin, Billy Idol (and various other members of the "Bromley Contingent" of Sex Pistols fans) and Topper Headon.

Now I live in Coventry, which gave the world Lady Godiva and Peeping Tom, Frank Whittle, Frank Ifield, Delia Derbyshire, various members of The Specials and The Selecter, Pte Wterman, Brian Matthew, Richard Keys and Debbie Ashby.

He is, as were the other Jam members. He was very rude to a friend of mine once though, so screw him.

I live in Greenock, which is where John Wagner was raised. It inspired a lot of what he put into Judge Dredd (tenement blocks filled with the unemployed, rampant street violence etc).

Quite a few famous Houstonians but to narrow it down:

My sister Sally went to high school with Brent Spiner and Randy Quaid. (Bellaire High School had a hell of a drama program in the late 60s that produced some big names.)

When I went to Bellaire High School, I had trig class with baseball player Chuck Knoblauch.

Frederick really doesn't have a lot going for it in terms of notables. The only ones that stuck out to me were Francis Scott Key, who wrote our national anthem, Bryan Voltaggio, who was a chef on Top Chef (and has a restaurant here), and Roger Brooke Taney, who was the chief justice behind the Dred Scott decision (that basically caused the Civil War, yay Frederick!?). We've also had a number of minor athletes, political figures, and such. Also the Blair Witch Project was set around here, and filmed in the area.

Not from where I currently live, but a girl I went to primary school with while I lived in Lincoln is now a (I assume moderately successful) fetish model. Which is weird, because I just remember her as an 8 year old desperately in love with Robson and Jerome.
