...and Paul Cornell isn't. It's a mystery.

Well presumably it's more of a case of Paul being busy than not being allowed, but there are plenty of writers who have written Who in other media and have TV writing experience that aren't getting asked in favour of any old TV writer. I'd still love to see an episode by Lance Parkin or Jonny Morris. And that Robert Shearman hasn't been wooed back is ridiculous.

I can't imagine anyone but Moffat would write their final appearance.

I wish he'd write Chibnall's.

Not DW news, but RTD, so;

Filming Begins on Russell T Davies’ Wizards vs Aliens

Filming is underway on Wizards vs Aliens, CBBC’s new adventure drama, created by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford (The Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor Who).

Produced by BBC Wales Cymru in association with FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), Wizards vs Aliens will air on CBBC this Autumn. Filming is taking place at the BBC’s Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff and nearby locations.

Starring newcomers Scott Haran as Tom Clarke and Percelle Ascott as Benny Sherwood, Wizards Vs Aliens is about a boy called Tom Clarke who learns that his family are Wizards – at just about the same time as an alien race called the Nekross arrive on Earth hungry for magic. With the help of his brainy friend Benny, Tom must stop the Nekross devouring all the magic on Earth with disastrous results for the whole planet.

Wizards vs Aliens (12 x 30 minutes) will be broadcast on CBBC in Autumn 2012. The executive producers are Russell T Davies, Bethan Jones and Gina Cronk for the BBC, and Bob Higgins and Sander Schwartz for FME. The producer is Brian Minchin and co-producer Phil Ford.

From the Doctor Who Twitter: https://twitter.com/...764371903754240

It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Caroline John who played companion Liz Shaw in 1970. She passed away on the 5th June.

RIP

Are they just targeting the Pertwee era cast or something?

Wow, that's surprising. I always thought it was a shame she only got one season (though she was going to leave if they hadn't chosen to not renew her contract anyway).

Are they just targeting the Pertwee era cast or something?

Katy Manning and Terrence Dicks best look out.

I was wondering if you guys could help. I've recently jumped down rabbit hole of listening to Big Finish Doctor Who.
Help!
Where do I go?
Which one’s should I listen to? I’ve done some looking on line and have heard a few but for every good one (Jubilee) I get something like The One Doctor and I never needed to hear Christopher Biggins pretend to be the Doctor again.
So help folks, what do you advise?

It's the title of the first episode of the next series.

It premeires at the BFI in July, so likely a late August or early September broadcast on BBC.

I'd go for
Davros - Lance Parkin
Spare Parts - Marc Platt
The Holy Terror & The Chimes of Midnight - Rob Shearman
See how they grab you.

Hmm, if you don't like The One Doctor (which I quite liked) you should avoid Bang-Bang-A-Boom.

Flip-Flop is fairly good. Can feel a bit hollow once you consider the high concept.
I quite liked Company of Friends, though I think it relies on being familiar with the companions, who are from other mediums.
The Condemned is pretty good.
I mostly go for the Companion Chronicles though, which are two voice 'dramatic readings' starring companions. The Sara Kingdom trilogy (Home Truths, Drowned World and Guardian of the Solar System) is cool, Shadows of the Past is a good Liz Shaw story, Frazer Hines is good in The Glorious Revolution and the Transit of Venus with William Russell as Ian is quite good. I'd skip the ones from the first series though, as they hadn't quite got the hang of the format. The Liz one, Blue Tooth, just about works, but Fear of the Daleks is fairly dull and the Romana II one that I can't remember the name of is pretty bad.

I also loved the One Doctor, so take my recommendations with lots of salt...

I don't really get them anymore but looking at the ones I've kept: The Fearmonger, Loups-Garoux, The Holy Terror and for some reason Colditz are ones are that I come back to.

Cheers, I've listened to Holy Terror, really enjoyed it. It's surprisingly dark. That and I didn't hate Colin Baker. Amazing.

The temptation of a new Stephen Hall story (he wrote the fantastic novel The Raw Shark Texts, which mixed brilliant writing with a love of language and word play) got me to try a couple of Big Finish stories: the short story, The Word Lord, and then the full length story A Death in the Family.

The Seventh Doctor, Ace, Hex (a new companion to me, Liverpudlian nurse played by one of the Hollyoaks guys) and Evelyn, an audio companion of the Sixth Doctor; and an absolutely cracking story, which has the Doctor dying a final death at the end of the first episode, and a future echo of himself setting his companions onto paths that play out a plan orchestrated by the most manipulative and strategic of all the Doctors (and all told a year before The Impossible Astronaut). Hall's one of those writers that can not only wrap a tight, twisty and very clever plot in and around itself, with character arcs reflecting themselves and each other, but who also gets the Doctor and nails him absolutely. More importantly though, he writes a fantastic Ace and made me care about Hex as well, who I barely knew.

The Seventh and Eleventh Doctors are my two favourite incarnations of the Doctor; this story being reflected by the Eleventh Doctor's stories from last year works very well for me.

Are they all this good? I've listened to Paul Cornell's Circular Time one as well, which is also great, and again demonstrates a writer who gets the idea of Who really well.

I haven't listened to A Death In The Family, but I think it's fair to say not all BF stories are as good as you found it. They can be quite variable in quality.

Mary Tamm RIP

Doctor Who star Mary Tamm, who played companion Romana alongside Tom Baker, has died aged 62.

The actress, who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, fought a long battle with cancer and died in hospital in London.

Agent Barry Langford, who confirmed the news, said she had a "zest for life".

Tamm's stage and screen career also included films The Odessa File and The Likely Lads, as well as recurring roles in EastEnders and Brookside.

Romana was always one of my favourite companions.
