The thirteenth Doctor should be played by an eight-year old.
(That could be great, actually.)
Heh. It really could, but you'd need an exceptional eight-year-old. I don't think there is one like that in the world, really.
I agree, it could be really great. It could also be a case of "Yipppeeee! Now that's what I call Time-Lording."

They're rare. I could see Elijah Wood or Jodie Foster, both of whom where very good from an early age, being interesting as versions of the Doctor if they'd had the chance.Heh. It really could, but you'd need an exceptional eight-year-old. I don't think there is one like that in the world, really.
I can't see it ever happening of course, that the BBC would let a producer pin the future show on the idea of finding the one in a billion (or whatever) child actor/actress capable of carrying the role, but it is a very interesting idea.

of course, the Doctor regenerating as a child could easily be done away with if it needed to be (actor wasn't working out for example) by using the Nathan Christopher Summers loophole in regards time-travel and kids aging.

The thirteenth Doctor should re-establish the Time Lords, and then it would be revelaed the #13 is actually a young version of the William Hartnell Doctor. The final scene of the series would be of an older version of him stealing an old TARDIS with his young granddaughter.

Now if I really had my way I'd play on a version of Jason's idea and have the 13th Doctor player by Tom Baker - a screw up in the regeneration puts the Doctor back into a body form he's already used, only much older and more frail. Just a season of Tom Baker being all Tom-bakerish again would be magic.

Let the companions help save the day instead of just standing by watching the technobabble.
To be fair there's quite a bit of that in the new iteration, right from the first episode where it's Rose swinging on that chain that saves the day. Amy even out-thinks the Doctor in her second episode.
I personally wouldn't mind an older Doctor that sat back more but it has been a very long time since they did that. Not sure how the current audience would take to it.

I think an 8 year old Doctor would be the moment the idea jumped the shark.
I don't know if it would jump the shark but it would certainly change the perception of the show. With such a young lead I don't think that the show could maintain the perception that it is intended for both children and adults. It would almost definitely have to continue purely as a kids show, much like the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Doctor Who
31-year-old Lara Pulver, best known for her recent BBC roles as Irene Adler on "Sherlock" and Erin Watts on "Spooks" (aka. MI-5), is said to be among the front runners to potentially replace Matt Smith as the titular Time Lord on "Doctor Who".
The tabloid suggests a dramatic twist will see the current 11th incarnation of The Doctor regenerate into a woman when next season reaches its dramatic climax which is also around the time of the show's 50th anniversary. [Source: The Express]

Hey British People, how trustworthy is The Express?
Not especially. I'm surprised they didn't tout Princess Diana as perfect female Doctor.

No he's confirmed for the 2012 Christmas special and the 2nd block of season 7 . . . beyond that hasn't been confirmed.I'm certain Matt Smith is confirmed to be in all episodes in 2013 which would include the Christmas Special.

Smith is confirmed to be in the show at least until the 50th Anniversary special. That would be the Christmas 2013 episode, unless they aired an extra-special episode early or as part of Nu-Who S8.

The article does say that he'd regenerate into a woman at the end of season 7/50 Anniversary so that doesn't really contradict anything. But as I said it's probably non-sense anyway.
