Matt Smith and Eva Green star in "Womb". It's a couple of years old, but it's only getting a wide release now, presumably to cash in on Green's upcoming turn in Dark Shadows.

It looks... intriguing. Posted Image

Yeah, it appears to have similarities. Birth was dull as f**k though, so hopefully this is at least interesting.

Also, in this one he's not a reincarnation, but rather she gives birth to his clone, which may or may not be just window-dressing.

So, Rihanna, John Carter and Qui-Gon Jinn or Apollo Creed and the director of New Jack City!? Tough choice.

This could win an award for the most blatant copycat film ever, unless the trailer is misleading as well as a bit (lot) cheap.

It's still probably the best thing Mario van Peebles has done in years.

That one sorta disappoints me. Just a bit too blatant - like TRANSMORPHERS, I guess - with nothing to set it apart from the film they are ripping off. At least, in PRINCESS OF MARS (AVATAR), BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES) and ALMIGHTY THOR (THOR), they could claim they were based on the same original material the studio movies were using (Burroughs, 40's UFO history and Norse myth). Even TRANSMORPHERS and THE TERMINATORS were significantly different ideas from TRANSFORMERS and THE TERMINATOR... in fact, they were actually ripping off other ideas from movies like WAR OF THE WORLDS and I ROBOT. I think their movie THE SURGE (or THE SOURCE?) actually came out before CHRONICLE which would be the movie it most closely resembles.

Of course, they were all horribly bad movies.

At the same time, few of the films being ripped off were particularly great and BATTLESHIP looks particularly bad.

I'm really surprised they haven't done a CRASH OF THE TITANS movie, yet.

I kinda find it weird the pitches they are looking for: http://theasylum.cc/...uction.php#jobs

PITCH SUBMISSION We are seeking pitches for the following genres ONLY:

AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMEDY: Broad comedy with a primarily African-American cast.

LATINO COMEDY: Broad comedy with a primarily Hispanic-American cast.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACTION: Action movie with a primarily African-American cast.

LATINO ACTION: Action movie with a primarily Hispanic-American cast.

LATINO FAMILY DRAMA: Ensemble drama with a family theme.

MARTIAL ARTS FILM: Non-stop action with plenty of martial arts fight scenes. It can be focused on one fighting style or include several.

I'm kinda tempted to write a pitch for a "broad comedy with a primarly African American cast" now.

Maybe because it's already bad enough on its own

It amazes me that The Asylum is still a studio that has not gone bankrupt when I'm sure people would rather watch the actual movies that Asylum continues trying to knock off... I did watch Paranomal Entity, I'd favor it over Paranormal Activity though

Josh Hartnett Taking Agency Meetings…What Happened To That Guy?

Josh Hartnett has left CAA, and he has been making the rounds of agencies looking for new representation. Even though they might be unexcited by his recent movies like Bunraku and Girl Walks Into A Bar, the agencies are all over him. Who can blame them? This is a strapping young guy who can act and is only 33. I thought he was going to be a big star when he made Pearl Harbor and especially Black Hawk Down. While occasional films reminded of his potential — how great was Hartnett in 30 Days Of Night, maybe the coolest vampire movie since From Dusk Till Dawn? – for the most part he has leaned toward indie, artsy fare.

I can still remember in the early 2000s when Hartnett was offered the Superman role by Warner Bros in a three-picture deal that potentially could have paid him $100 million. He turned it down because he didn’t want to be defined by that iconic role. Sometimes shuffling the deck with reps works, but only if the actor doesn’t reject the occasional big picture to go along with the art films, something Ryan Gosling is now doing. Agents tells me that a couple of good studio roles puts Hartnett right back on the map, and that is why they’re racing to sign him. He’s still with Management 360.

So is he going to try and become the star he almost was? And if he does, will it work?

Womb looks...mental. I can't make up my mind whether it's 'Holy shit, I need to watch this!' or 'Holy shit, what is this shit?!' brand of mental though.

Don't know about going for good studio roles, but I think he'd learn a few things looking for quality projects and directors. I like him more than Ryan Gosling, for example, but I have to admit he needs better guidance.

Really looking forward to this CABIN IN THE WOODS

Of course, if I was pitching it to THE ASYLUM it would be CABIN IN THE HOOD with Ice T.

That's because you're a bitter old cynic! Bah Humbug indeed!!! Posted Image

On one level it looks like someone wrote a comedy skit about a Hollywood pitch ("Santa, the Easter Bunny and bunch of other childhood myths turn out to be real and fight the forces of darkness for the fate of the world!") and sent it to the wrong department, where they took it seriously.

But on another level, if you're under 12 years old maybe, this could be THE BEST FILM EVER!!!! All it needs is some dinosaurs and maybe a robot?!?!?!

I think one issue here may be that this is a seriously shit trailer that doesn't give any sense of the actual tone of the movie. Towards the end there, you get the sense that it's a movie that is (at least trying to be) funny, but most of the trailer is just unbearably gooey.

The trailer is perfectly clear then. Of course it's gooey, with those characters and that (I'm guessing it's large) budget from a major studio I would be surprised if they didn't aim to tug a heart string or two.

And of course it's aiming to be funny, for exactly the same reasons, and even more so because serious, non-humorous animation isn't something that gets made in the english-speaking world very often.

I don't think it looks like something I'd go see for myself, but I'm not the target audience. Even as a parent you're not either, but as a parent you might end up seeing it anyway. ;)

Nah. The trailer is very sticky-gooey in tone, whereas stuff like Santa's Batcave and his "naughty" and "nice" tattoos suggest that the tone of the movie itself is rather more like your typical Dreamworks animated film.

True, that. I'll let you know what it's like if I do :)

The typical Dreamworks animated film ISN'T 'Shrek' then?

Reminding myself of their output, I think it's more than likely this will be fun, but I guess we'll see?

 I did mean Shrek, actually... which I suspect this movie will be like, but the trailer isn't like at all.

Well that looks depressingly average - as you'd expect from a Len Wiseman film.

Reminded me of the 2008 version of The Day The Earth Stood Still - a pointless, unimaginative remake of a film we've seen before.

At the end when the different faces are flashing over Farrell's it would have been awesome if one of then had been Shwarzenager's.

Though I should add that I don't really have any problem with this remake. The original isn't a particularly good film to begin with. It's cheesy, overly violent fun but it's not particularly special. This trailer is definitely light on plot and high on actions but at the same time it does look like has some new ideas at least in terms of the social economic structure of the world.
