I don't know if this is evidence that the studio's marketing executives are idiots or if it just tells us they just think their customers, the movie-going audience, are stupid.
Probably both.
"Listen, if we don't change the title, they are sure to think it's a sequel to this other movie none of them went to see!"
Like "Mars" was the problem with "Mars Needs Moms" - not just every other damn thing in the movie.
Morons.
So, what does this mean for Stanton, really? Back to animation? Not that John Carter was very far from animation in the first place.
Well, it's not just Mars Needs Moms. John Carpenter's Ghost on Mars also bombed. So did Mission to Mars. So did Mars Attacks! So did Red Planet.
Audiences just don't like Mars!
