Catching up again on this season of Desperate Housewives

Me too. Not quite as enthused about it as you, but it's certainly solid entertainment, as always. Nice to see Orson back.

Working my way through Justified season 1 with my wife now that I've gotten her into the show. In retrospect a lot of these earlier episodes work a lot better than I thought they did when i first watched them. Now that I've gotten a handle on the series style and humor, rather than what I thought it was, these episode fit. Still more looking forward to season 2 more though.

Haha Well, I pretty much grew up with this drama and I guess the reason I am enjoying this season so much was because I hated the last two for the most part and it's nice to finally see them step up on the writing and having a more organized story, they are also taking even more chances and risk with the story that seems to be paying off for me... Orson was always one my favorite characters in DH, he does make quite the charming antagonist

Was just reminded of the existence of this:

So good. It's less than a minute of 3D animation done for a website (and thus presumably with barely any budget behind it) yet it knocks the Bay movies into a cocked hat. It's more stylish, has better direction and the characters are actually recognisable as Transformers (also disproving that annoying argument I've heard so many times saying that normal Transformers style designs wouldn't work for a film). Wish they'd done more.

Just saw "Another Year". Fantastic movie about... well, basically about how tragic it is that even when you are happy, you can't do a thing when your friends and family are struggling just to get through the day. And as usually, a bunch of brilliant actors (Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen and Leslie Manville in the major roles, but the minor ones are no less good) used to their full extent. Man, I love Mike Leigh movies so much.

I wasn't as much of a fan of the first season..too many standalone episodes for my liking. Although the episode with the former NFL player trying to be a bodyguard was a good one. Season 2 takes the cake, though.

Yeah I think the second season was a significant improvement over the first but on second viewing I think the first season was also much better than I originally I thought. There are a lot of really good episodes and it's kind of ballsy that the overarching plot doesn't show up in full until the last third of the season.

I think Justified is probably my second favorite show behind Breaking Bad now... Justified has been consistent and every episode is still solid.. Love the writing and the performances.. Third season is still holding up really strong

I hear ya..I just netflixed BB up until the end of season 3 and am completely caught up in it. Giancarlo Esposito has finally hit his stride as an actor, finding a role that he can embody. I remember him from the latter seasons of "Homicide: Life On The Street", and I couldn't buy his portrayal of an FBI agent.

I had about 5 episodes of this season of Justified DVR'd and just now caught up with them. This season started slow, but now with the accusations of Gibbons mounting, this season has quietly taken off.

Put IMMORTALS on a small screen and it magically magnifies everything bad about the story.

Went to a screening of The Raid last night. Not sure if it's out any where yet. Like all Thai action films the plot is basically non-existent, just a rickety framework to hang people beating the living crap out of each on. The early segment of the film is a little too ADD for my liking, fast cuts and characters in similar looking uniforms make the action a bit difficult to follow at times. However, once the characters get whittled down and the editing relaxes this film is just nuts. This is honestly one of the most brutal action/martial arts films I've seen in a very very long time. Most of the fights are a combination of Muay Thai and knife fighting with the heroes taking on large groups of opponents and attempting to disable/kill them as fast as possible. As usual the Thai's complete disregard for their stunt men is on full display and allows for the kinds of fights you never ever see in American action films. If you have the opportunity, see this in the theater with a rowdy audience.

For people who missed it on 10 O'Clock Live last night, Charlie Brooker on Kony/Invisible Children. Well worth a watch.

Evidence: another found footage horror. Has it's moments but it sticks to the Blair Witch formula far too much and the ending just doesn't work.

I have just cried with laughter at this. Any one of these things - the comedy unicycling, the bad bagpipe playing of the Star Wars music, the Vader/kilt combo - would be funny in their own right, but together they're something amazing.

Oh pit of human misery, tv...how you have brought us low.

I'm watching a reality tv thingy now, where dumb young people are sent to Nepal for a "journey fo spiritual discovery.' When asked what Nepal makes her think of, one girl answers "Italy". Another girl is wondering wether there is really only one Sun.

'Hitman'

What really throws me off about this film is all the excess. This isn't just Bond excess, it's a step into... well video game excess.

I could go with the gadgety gadgets and the costumes better in a more exaggerated world, if this was more Scifi and fantastical, but its not. Nothing else is silly enough to justify how silly the central character and his way of doing things is.

And yet, it's still a better movie than Quantum of Bollocks.

Watched X-Men: First Class for the first time since the cinema release. Still a very enjoyable movie (even though Fassbender's accent does slip a couple of times - something I didn't notice the first time around).

I'm going to take that comment seriously and run with it, if you don't mind? Because you're not really wrong but...

'QoS' was bloody annoying. It followed a really good Bond film and just wasn't good. Not "as" good, simply "not good".

However it did manage to to be more coherent and better staged than 'Hitman', obviously it cost a lot more but that really shouldn't matter. 'Hitman' had enough money to achieve its goals but it failed.

The best comparison is actually 'The Bourne Identity' as they share a lot of the same basic ideas; the best assassin in the world finds himself on the run from his own agency and protecting a young woman for whom he develops feelings while attempting to figure out whats going on and how he can sort the situation out?

Where Bourne triumphs is through its characters, who are the priority for the filmmakers and who take centre stage. In 'Hitman' the characters of 47 and Nika are really after thoughts. It's a shame because there's the potential there to be a sort of "anti-Bourne".

47 never really rejects his role as a killer and Nika is a seriously screwed up victim of sex trafficking.

But the filmmakers aren't interested in this, they just wants the fights. Pity really.
