Watched Blue Valentine, which I really liked. Michelle Williams was brilliant, and Gosling was good too. Lovely looking movie as well.
Just watched that to. Really strong performances from Williams and Gosling, nice work on Gosling's hair to make him look older to.

I think that's a little unfair. I think Dirk Gently is a little wilder (in terms of fantastical plot elements) and definitely takes itself far less seriously. I can certainly enjoy it without feeling as though it's overshadowed by Sherlock - they feel quite different to me.Dirk Gently. Moderately good fun, but it seems like a poor relation to Stephen Moffat's Sherlock now, which does pretty much exactly the same thing, but about three and a half times better.

I was somewhat distracted by his Nicholas Cage hair in the scenes where he's older.

Highlight was greeting "Mrs Edwards" . . . you look quite well, for someone who's dead . . . and then she falls dead . . .

Quite enjoyed it. It nicely balances the reality of family life with the father struggle with what's going on in his head. Keeps things nice and tense by preserving the ambiguity of his visions for as long as possible.

I can't wait for his take on Zod . . .Take Shelter: a father starts to have apocalyptic visions. Is he going mad or is it a sign of things to come? He starts building a shelter just in case.

Yeah, that was definitely a cut above the usual action adventure fare. It made a nice change to actually feel the characters' deaths for a change, rather than just have them be cannon-fodder.
As for the ending, I can see how it can be read that way - the wolves seem more like a force of nature rather than actual animals after all - but I prefer to read it literally despite that. Also, there's a post-credits scene... what did you make of that?Spoiler

Yeah, that was my favourite bit of the episode.I could do without the hammering the interconnectedness of all things, but then I know the backstory.

"She must have thought I was being really sarcastic."

He's Zod? Could be an inspired choice.

Anyway. I've never read the threads here so I don't know what the MW consensus is. But hopefully I like it...

I bought the Game of Throne Blu-Rays today. Mostly for the wife. I was an early adopter on the books but the show always kind of looked like crap to me, like that Mists of Avalon TV series was. And a good friend of mine said it was terrible.
Anyway. I've never read the threads here so I don't know what the MW consensus is. But hopefully I like it...
If you like the books, I'd imagine you'd like the show. It's a very faithful adaptation. Hope you end up enjoying it.

Just saw Melancholia, it was very.... interesting.. but a very beautifully shot movie
Yeah, von Trier is one of the favourite directors, but Melancholia left me pretty cold except for a few exceptionally beautiful moments (mainly the first ten minutes and the ending of the film).
