Miqque On Adventure!

Hiya kids! After being ignominiously booted out of my quarters, I found there is practically no housing in this town and so have ever-so-joyously been engaged in some involuntary car camping. Looks like ths Friday may be the end of this adventure, but quite expensive in the short run - better when more permanent quarters are found.

Lots of adventure! Have pneumonia, and the antibiotic I'm getting is apparently also the cure for anthrax. Never liked that band that much anyhow. Hope to be back to the board quite soon with amazing tales of derring-do.

Did see Green Lantern, Star Trek both of which I enjoyed - and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was a hoot. Also been listening to baseball on the radio, happy when the Rockies beat the Giants over the weekend.

Hope all is well amongst all of you, you're in my prayers and I hope I'm in yours; 'cause I'm tired of Da Devil kickin' at me!

Some remember a little situation I got changed re: Social Security, Looks like that's my job this time too - only this is to prevent a monopoly on qffordable housing. THe way two companies have made a pincer move shuts out anyone on a fixed income - e.g. the elderly and disabled. This could cost the city millions in Federal funding, and it has already cost too many a home due to th property management comapies policies (which are stone illegal, btw). Now that the problem is defined, there are some in trouble, I just want to deal with it from the comfort of my own place!

Will talk to y'all soon.

Why Didn't We Let Go?

Much of what we complain about from the big 2 in part stems from their attempting to create the following. A happy median between appeasing Gen x (And older) and establishing a connection to the present generation. All of this reminds me of something I read from Byrne in reference to fans complaints, basically he said " You should have stopped reading comics at 15 or 16 and these things wouldn't be an issue".

So, why did so many of us not stop reading comics at 15 or 16?

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 400 is one of the greatest comics of all time but that stems from wanting to see Peter move on. Aunt May should've been able to make wheat cakes at will without my generation wanting to see that transition away from her.

Game of Thrones - TV Series - Series 3

Time to reboot the TV thread for Game of Thrones. There are a number of directions for what can be discussed in this thread:

The Books

Content of the books should be discussed over in the GoT book thread - here

There should be no discussion of the books that will potentially lead to spoilers for those of us only watching the TV show.

Speculation and Spoilers

With the third series coming to an end, we appreciate that speculation is very tempting, particularly as the intrigue thickens, but one challenge with Game of Thrones is that it can be difficult to distinguish between speculation and spoilers.

We would be grateful if speculation about future events could be treated as spoilers and clearly labeled as speculation, under spoiler tags.

That lets everyone decide for themselves just how much speculation and potential spoilers they expose themselves to.

An added warning for anyone using the Tapatalk app on smartphones, it has a habit of not covering up spoilers, so you may expose yourself to being spoiled if you access the thread through the app.

AMERICAN PRISON QUESTION!

In the middle of the next big Millarworld book, coming out at the end of the year, and need a couple of quick checks.

What courses are open to someone in prison on a massive drug offence? In the UK you can do a degree from behind bars. Does anything exist like this in the States where prisoners can improve their skills for release?

What's the absolute smartest way to reduce your sentence ethically if you're in on a 15 year drugs charge? What would good behaviour get you down to and what other actions could be taken to get out ASAP.

Thanks in advance,

THE ORIGINAL MARVEL 1985 BOOK!

A few years back, I had this plan to do a Marvel book that was my tribute to the mid 1980s movies I loved as a kid. It was about a small town in the real world invaded by Marvel super-villains who had escaped here through a magical portal. My original idea was to do this as a photo-strip and I think we had around 20 pages in when the office got a little nervous about it. I was alone in thinking this looked absolutely brilliant, but respected the fact that I'm not *always* right and so agreed to go for a more traditional approach to the story.

I was bummed about this until the great Tommy Lee Edwards was signed up for the art and the project went on to tie with maybe Ultimates and Old Man Logan (tho possibly Enemy of the State too) as the Marvel project I'm most proud of from that decade where I worked at the company. But these guys were so talented. The only pages the office really had a problem with were the ones featuring heroes and villains, their rationale being that home-made suits and amateur actors were going to be compared unfavourably with the 150 million dollar superhero movies that were out there every summer. It was a good point. But this remains a nice little curio. Thanks to Bendy for reminding me about this.

NuSFL - what now?

So the first season of NuSFL is over, and great job Nathan did in breathing new ideas into the game. I've 'won' the privilege of running the next league, so I wanted to start a thread to share my thoughts, and ask for your feedback plus your own ideas. The goal is to start another league near the end of June.

Here's what's not changing:

1. Using polls to answer questions. Much better way of voting.

2. Thought-provoking questions every week - only one of which will be who wins in a fight!

3. Smaller rosters - I think it's just easier to manage.

Now, here's my spin on things:

1. Only 10 teams. I think a few less teams would make the votes a bit more competitive, and fewer options means making the decision on who to vote for a bit easier.

2. To support that I'm thinking of doing the tag-team idea I floated a while ago. Each team with 2 owners, so it's not too much work and people have a friend to help them out in the pimping side of things.

3. To support that, I think at least one question a week will be a team up question, involving 2 of your roster members.

4. That means probably a roster of 5 characters. I wouldn't force a change every week, but I'd offer an opportunity for change every couple of weeks so you can freshen up your team.

5. I'm going to introduce the idea of bonus points each week for members who add content to the game. Great pimping, being nice to others, drawing and strips, stories, that kind of thing. I want to encourage the community to be appreciated when they try and feel that their time spent doing something clever or funny is worthwhile. Not enough point to be a huge game changer, but 2-3 extra votes each week.

6. Heroes only, and no Superman, Batman or Thor. Those three just have too much of an advantage.

7. Categories of characters so everyone has a nice balance. So one Superman level, one tech character, one streetfighter and so on.

8. Have a draft for the rosters. Everyone picks their first character, then second round and so on. Could be pretty interesting to see how characters are selected, and avoids early birds getting all the plum choices.

Opinions welcome people.
