So is there a rule about spoilers when it comes to discussing things that happened in the comic but not on the show yet? Which is quite a lot of course. I stopped reading the comic a few storylines ahead of where they are now on the show (if they stick to the same route for the most part) and so I certainly appreciate people not talking about the comic too much.
At the same time, it kind of feels if any forum for this show should allow talk about the comic it should be this one (as it's a comic related site.) There are certainly plenty of purely TV related review sites out there (Hit Fix has the amazing Alan Sepinwall's reviews and comment section which actually prohibits talking about the comic) so maybe they should be allowed here?
Thoughts?

And a solid pistol would be much more common and useful than an uzi. Remember that only a head shot will kill these guys, and wounding them barely slows them down in many cases, so having a weapon that you can accurately target to their head is very useful. And with ammo in even slightly limited supply, spraying bullets everywhere is not ideal. And of course uzis are super rare, only real gun nutters would have one, you wouldn't find them in police stations (though they might possibly have AR-15s), most residences, or even on military bases (although I'm sure they'd have some fun toys, but they'd likely be gone within the first 24 hours).
Anyways, like I said earlier, if that were me on that farm, I'd dig trenches. Big ones about 4-6ft wide and 6+ft deep. Then I'd fill it with stakes. Maybe even some razor or barbed wire if I can find some (and that's not too unlikely in farm country). Even if I couldn't get the whole area circled, it would choke off potential attack points, and would be less susceptible to breakage or being overwhelmed than any build-able wall would be. Remember that these are not cunning soldiers that could cleverly circle around, or make a bridge, or the many things that would make such trenches almost useless in standard combat, walkers tend to wander aimlessly in straight lines, so if they fall into a pit filled with spikes, even if it doesn't kill them they'll be slowed down enough or stopped so they can be finished off, and they won't bother going around.
I'd also put as many bells or bell-like objects as I could get on strings along the edge of the pits. This would not only warn us if they're tripped, but would attract any other nearby walkers right into the same spots. Hell, I bet the walkers are so dumb that if you put a good firm trip-rope six inches above the lip of the pit, they'd fall in face first instead of feet first, making disabling injury much more likely.

1. Run up the hill to the horse farm and steal a horse.
2. Return home and pack a change of clothes, water bottles, carryable food, bows and arrows, a few melee weapons, etc.
3. Head to the farm/daycamp next door and entrench (they have a windmill, fields, and relatively clear views while also being road-convenient).
4. Once a basecamp is established and reasonably well defended, make a sortie out to Ft. Detrick, who probably started the whole mess and see what's up.

It'd take you months to dig those trenches - back breaking work every day. Unless you plan to steal a digger and burn up all your fuel running it. And trenches fill up. A wave of zombies come through and before long their bodies are piled up in the trench and the rest can crawl over them.Anyways, like I said earlier, if that were me on that farm, I'd dig trenches. Nothing's foolproof. One person alone couldn't dig a reasonable amount of trenches, but several people working together could accomplish it in a reasonable amount of time. But yeah, a digger would make things easier, and I have a decent idea where to get one. Fuel would be less of a concern when you have horses and don't plan on traveling very far. And yeah, the trenches wouldn't last forever without maintenance, if the zombies kept coming in endless waves they'd only slow them down a bit, but the idea is more to deal with random wanderers, which you could just patrol out and finish them off with a polearm, then fish them out and dispose of them. Maybe even stack them up on the outward side to form a makeshift wall. Even if they did come in waves, the trench could absorb several zombies per square foot before any would be likely to make it through, and several more before it would fail to slow them down sufficiently, so even at worst it would be an effective defensive advantage, better than most walls that could be constructed using makeshift means. It's weird though, your responses always "sound" "testy" to me lately, it's funny how text can distort things.

Very much enjoy the discussion here. I'm excited for the big season finale coming up.

We had a slight dust-up earlier in this thread when someone posted spoiler material from the comic in comparison to what was happening on the tv show. In deference to the posters in this thread who only watch the tv show and actually don't read the comic book, we asked posters to be safe and use spoiler quotes to keep material from the comic from spoiling the tv show.
I have met several people who only watched the tv show and now love the comic once they found out about the comic the show was based upon.

Yeah, you've got the
Spoiler
Perfect finale.
Did a double-take reading your spoiler material the first time and realized I needed to read that sentence a bit slower, as my first quick glance at the sentence came out reeeaaallllyyy different than what you wrote.
But, yes I echo your originally intended sentiment...

"Whose motorcycle is this?"
"It's a chopper, Carol."
"Whose chopper is this?"
"Merle."
"Who's Merle?"
"Merle's undead, baby. Merle's undead."
